Nice staff, comfy bed, but super noisy

Staff were great. But for anyone who needs a quiet room that stays dark until they plan on getting up, this is not the hotel. All rooms face onto an extremely noisy intersection, and the windows do not have blackout curtains on them. Earplugs are supplied, but they don't drown out the sound of big trucks rattling down the road and horns blasting all through the night. Both Canal and Lafayette seem to be a major thoroughfare for trucks. And the light shines in at the crack of dawn. If the hotel sealed the windows better for sound and installed blackout curtains, it would be a big help. It was so loud in our room it felt like the windows were wide open. We had to change hotels because of the problem. And we had to stay two nights because we had to give 24 hours cancellation notice to get a refund for the remainder of our stay. Staff were really apologetic and did their best to help, but they still charged us one night (a Friday) at the top per night rate instead of the Hotels.com discount rate. If we book through a discount service, I feel that every night should be at a discount, not just one night. It turned out to be an expensive mistake.
