The Midtown West has all the basics one could ask for - relatively comfortable bed, clean shower/tub room, OK dinner, an OK location (not the closest to any specific subway line but not too off to the side to bother very much), friendly staff and decent breakfast.
It is, however, exactly that - good with the basics and nothing else more.
If you want a gym you'll have to go out to the next door hotel
(it's ok - they have an agreement about it). If you want something other than carb based, heavy sweets food, dine out. etc.
On the flip side, Hell's kitchen isn't a bad neighbourhood. Nice coffee shops, local businesses and restaurants dot the place and, across the corner there are even some notable dining places. walking distance to any of the NRW12 stations in the area isn't bad (10-15 minutes) as to any of the broadway/off broadway area.
