NYC Bargain

Posted May 31, 2017
Location: Location is convenient to Greenwich Village. There are several nice restaurants within walking distance.
Nice place to stay that's reasonably priced (for 21st Century New York City. Staff is very helpful.

pictures can be deceiving

The checkin was a joke. She was nice to me but the woman in front of me got snipped at. The rooms seem really dirty with the scent of mold and filth. The rooms are barely big enough to put your carry on bag. The dirt on the tile was gross, the blinds and lamps were dingy. All around not good experience.

Great location but extremely small dark rooms

Posted May 24, 2017
The GEM hotel is located in a great area to explore Chelsea. The hotel rooms are extremely small - good for one person but really too small for a couple. Rooms are very dark with no view but clean. Roof top deck is unkepted with furniture that is old and fake planters that are unsightly but has great views.

Great location. A little morning coffee in the lobby would go a long way.

Great place for a quick stay in NYC

Posted Apr 11, 2017
This was a great find for a quick weekend in NYC. One block from a major subway stop, and lots of dining/shopping options around (CVS around the corner, diner for breakfast, etc.). The lobby was really cute and nice spot for a cocktail during happy hour. The room appears small at first but once I was there I realized it's all I needed. Good TV channels, and updated look and feel. The corridors/hallways were a bit dated, but the rooms were nice. Staff was friendly.

great Chelsea location

Posted Apr 7, 2017
Pros: The location, the price, convenience
Cons: The mattresses and the windows
Location: Chelsea is a good place to stay, lots of restaurants, transportation, safe neighborhood
I have stayed at The Gem hotel in the past, it is a functional hotel, the rooms are small and clean, the beds do need to be updated tho. I like a soft pillow top or memory foam mattress, my bed was neither. They said they are in the process of renovating the mattresses. I hope I get a new soft mattress the next time I stay there. I hope they replace the windows also, that would help with the soundproofing of the room too.

Place to sleep

Small rooms but you will be outside most of the time. Just needed a place to sleep and it was ok. No microwave or refrigerator.

Cozy place in good location.

Pros: Great location, friendly staff.
Cons: If they would just replace the shower curtain with a slightly longer one, it would be possible to shower without drenching the bathroom floor.
Location: The location is great -- one block from the 23rd St. subway stop; close to many restaurants & the High Line; and right by a CitiBike station.
I liked this place. The room was small but clean, quiet, and pleasant.
