Had a wonderful stay at the Essex house. Hotel was beautiful and in a great location! Staff was so amazing and helpful from the moment we got there until the moment we left. Will definitely stay here again on our next trip to New York and will certainly recommend it to everyone I know heading to New York

Perfect Manhattan location

Posted Aug 17, 2015
We had a great time on our 5 day trip to Manhattan. The hotel staff was very friendly and took great care of us. The location is as good as it gets - right across the street from Central Park!. We spent several hours a day in the park and it really is one of the great parks of the world. Also, the hotel staff was nice enough to bring us a mini fridge (not the hotel stocked one) and that was really helpful during our stay. The next time we go back to Manhattan, we are staying her again.

Ok, but the vallet damaged my car and the security staff helped cover it up...they were "unable" to provide the video.

Good location. Indifferent staff. Anemic Amenities

Posted Aug 10, 2015
Pros: Location
Cons: Everything else
Location: Mid-town near central park
I have stayed in this hotel for over 30 years, but not recently. Check in lines took 30 minutes. Did not feel welcome. Staff are indifferent. Room amenities are worthy of a 2 star hotel and certainly not business friendly. Wifi is expensive at a time where most high quality hotels are offering them free. For a frequent guest, no welcome back, no good bye on departure by anyone, no upgrade. Just gave me the key and sent me to find my room. Previous Jumeirah management was far superior.

Dear H.K., We appreciate the chance to hear from a returning guest, though we are disappointed we could not better meet your expectations. With our Plug-In High Tech room features, such as USB outlets, enhanced Internet speed and two included phones, we have taken the business traveler into careful consideration when updating our guest rooms. That being said, we apologize if our service did not appear to reflect that same sense of attention. All of our guests are valued, and we strive to make you feel welcomed and comfortable at every point in your stay. We will certainly distribute your feedback amongst management so we can ensure that we are holding ourselves to the highest standard in hospitality. We hope that if you return to New York City in the near future, we will have the chance to provide you with the stay you deserve.

Best location in NYC!

Posted Aug 4, 2015
Pros: Perfect location, directly across the street from Central Park and within walking distance to the Met and many other attractions.
Cons: Front desk staff should be more welcoming, cordial, and knowledgeable. Staff should also not agree to grant a guest's wishes if they cannot deliver.
Location: Central Park, Metropolitan Museum of Art, Fifth Avenue shopping, Columbus Circle, The Plaza Hotel, Apple Store--all within a few blocks.
I always choose Marriott hotels, and I am usually very pleased with them (particularly when they are almost $500/night)--this hotel doesn't quite make the cut as one of my top choices, and I probably won't be staying there again. This is a "nice" hotel in a wonderful location--you are close to all the action, but it's nowhere near as crazy as staying closer to Times Square. I rented 2 park-view rooms for our party of four, and we had called earlier in the day to see if we could be on the same floor--the employee I spoke with said she had noted it in the reservation, but we were given rooms two floors apart. My reservation also somehow got confused with another guest's reservation, so we were given a key to a room and unlocked that room only to find that there were already another guest's belongings in there. Thankfully, they were out of their room, but I'm sure the staff was grateful that I was an honest person and didn't steal things from them (and I'm pretty sure they never even told the other guest about their mistake). The housekeeping, security, and front door staff were wonderful, but the front desk staff member I dealt with was not very welcoming or appropriately apologetic (at 8:00 on a Thursday night, she was the only one working the desk, and there were four or five guests in line behind me). The on-site restaurant, Southgate, was good for a quick drink or two, but the food was fairly average (and, of course, overpriced--as is everything in NYC).

Dear Leigh Ann, We appreciate this opportunity to learn more about your experience and thank you for your loyalty to Marriott Hotels and Resorts. We are glad to know that you enjoyed our location near Central Park that affords our guests peace and quiet. We do apologize that your request could not be fulfilled. While we would love to honor every guest request, we must stress that they unfortunately cannot be guaranteed, and we are disappointed if this was not the impression you were given. Moreover, the security of our guest rooms is one of our top priorities, and this error is something that will be reviewed internally so we can ensure it is not repeated. We thank you for your feedback and for allowing us the chance to accommodate your trip to New York City. We would love to serve you again, and hope that you might give us the chance to improve upon this most recent stay.

Location was the only good thing about this hotel

Posted Aug 1, 2015
Had a tough time checking in. Booked 2 rooms, got the first room at 12noon, and was promised the second rooms by 3pm - but actually got it at 7pm. Had to go down personally to get anything done. Never staying here again.

Amazing Location and Hotel Managers, Needs Updates

Posted Jul 28, 2015
Pros: The staff was amazingly helpful. We had few issues with the room, however, they were extremely helpful and by the end we were really glad.
Cons: Room descriptions and pictures at expedia. Room needs a little of updates (i.e.: tub etc)
Location: Central Park, Columbus Circle, 5th Avenue, Zoo
Our stay didn't start as planned. The room (double bed) didn't have any view at all, AT ALL, and we were kind of upset. The room had few issues, however, the staff was very helpful and both managers were willing to help as much as they could. The location is just fantastic. The size of the room is very good with lots of storage. So overall our stay was good, next time for sure we will book a room with a view and hopefully both managers will still be there because they were amazing with us.

Dear Traveler, Thank you for sharing your experience with us. In hopes of being as clear as possible, we include “View” in the guest room name on our website. We will be sure to take another look at our profile to ensure there are no inconsistencies in our property description. In the future, it may be helpful to cross-reference with our website to confirm you are booking the best room possible. We are glad that our managers could step in and improve your stay. We look forward to our next opportunity to serve you.

Very nice hotel, great location

Posted Jul 7, 2015
Pros: Spacious rooms and bathrooms, comfortable beds. Beautiful lobby.
Cons: Our first room was noisy, but they were quick to fix the situation.
Location: Right on Central Park and close to Broadway.
The staff is very welcoming and our first room was spacious and clean with a very comfortable bed. Unfortunately, there was a loud mechanical knocking sound coming through the wall for several hours during the night. When I called in the morning to request a new room, Christina at the front desk was extremely accommodating and gave us an upgrade to a larger room with a park view. Moving rooms is always an inconvenience, but they could not have been nicer about making things right. We would stay here again.
