Repeat stay

We have stayed here many times over the years. Great location. Very nice rooms. Dining room for dinner not as good as it used to be. Hostess at breakfast was a sourpuss!!

excellent hotel

Everything about this hotel is A+. Our room was small but very clean, updated bathroom and beautiful comfy linens. Location is perfect for Times Square, Theatres, restaurants. Will definitely return. Only mistake was using the "concierge" for theatre tickets - better by far to go directly to the box office.

Perfect Boutique Hotel for discerning traveller

Pros: Atmosphere ...location and cleanliness.
Cons: Install coffee makers in rooms, improve lighting and shower heads in bathrooms. Menu prices size quality so people don't bother to go out to eat.
Location: Fantastic location close to everywhere Central station shopping museums perfect.
Perfect hotel for us, handy to everywhere...Galleries, Museums ,shopping, short walk to Times square and Central Park or Bryant Park. Coming back in winter the lobby is cosy, welcoming with the sophistication of a French boutique Hotel ...small menu is adequate perhaps a little pricey for what is offered. Wait staff impeccable. Our room was lovely, however the lighting was poor and the shower was difficult to work with a weak flow and was not enjoyable. We missed the option of tea/coffee maker in our room as the free option downstairs cut off at 2pm so no chance to relax on return in your room with a hot drink after returning from the day out. The porter who left our room with a good tip to bring back a second suitcase rack never returned. Writing all the above we would still return as the overall stay was comfortable and welcoming.

Even though it is right in the middle of Manhattan, The Algonquin is just steps off the beaten path enough to feel like you're stepping out of the Times Square frenzy. The staff is cheerful, courteous, experience and eager to help. The hotel's history add to its allure and combine with contemporary amenities like free wi-fi and fitness equipment to make this a perfect med-town stay-space. And, comparatively speaking, the price is right.

Amazing Location

Pros: Everything, specifically the historic aspect, which was the main reason for booking.
Cons: One elevator was not working during our stay, but we still enjoyed everything about the hotel. Taking the stairs was not a problem.
Location: Great location in the middle of everything. Two blocks to Bryant Park, New York Public Library and metro station, grocery and shopping close by.
Overall great stay for our one year wedding anniversary. Hotel staff were very friendly and approachable. They've preserved the character and history of the hotel amazingly. Location was tops! Two blocks from NYPL and Bryant Park, Whole Foods, Time Square, Pret-a-Manger, and metro stations. Room size was good... Obviously space is tight in NY, but room was spacious enough for two people, included a writing desk, bench, and even a dresser. We went to The Blue Bar for a drink one night. Pricey, but ambiance and service was excellent. We also got to see Matilda, which I had been on the lookout for, but we saw her chilling by the bell stand on the last day :)

5 Days over Thanksgiving.

Pros: Location and ambiance
Cons: Slow elevators
Location: Manhattan is at your doorstep.
Stayed 5 days over Thanksgiving. Great location. A half block to Parade Route. 1 & 1/2 blocks to Times Square. Insist on Yellow cabs, black cars are a rip-off. The Red Flame Diner next door is great too.

Nice hotel close to Times Square

Cons: Bar seating
Location: Times Square, FOX News, NBC News, Rockeller Center, St. Patrick's Cathedral
Good, basic hotel. Room was very good. Front desk very pleasant and helpful. Just a 2 block walk to Times Square-- a 4 block walk to Rockefeller Center.

Location: Perfect location for theaters, Times Square, Fifth and Sixth Avenues, Central Park etc

Great for theater

The staff over the phone when I called to reserve a bar fridge and early check in weren't super friendly but when I arrived everyone on staff was fantastic. Special kudos to Christian at the bar as he is always exceptional.

Very close to times square

The hotel itself is beautiful and has amazing history behind it. The service in the so called restaraunt is terrible we waited over an hour and no one came to our table so we left. It took about 20 minutes for the shower to get slightly warm so if are thinking quick shower and be on your way for the day thats not going to happen. Overall would definitley go again but would not stay there. Beautiful city with lots to see but people are very unfriendly. Food way over priced and not that good.
