Lovely Midtown hotel but missing a few touches
Posted Dec 15, 2016
We stayed here in December as a treat for my wife, the rooms are very well decorated and, I think, reasonably spacious for New York. The room came with a safe, ironing board and hairdryer as you'd expect but instead of a small kettle there was an array of overly expensive snacks and sweets - complementary tea/coffee is available in the Reception, but, as we were on the 9th floor this didn't feel particularly convenient
The bed was huge and very comfortable, the shower was not powerful but good all the same. The walls are a little thin, if we were sitting in bed watching tv we could hear next doors tv louder than our own and whoever was next door watched tv til gone midnight and turned it on again at around 6am. There was a little noise from the street - but nothing too disturbing or unexpected for Midtown.
The breakfast buffet is quite good, there's a decent selection of cereals, fruits and cooked breakfast items, although we felt it was overpriced at $30 each and probably aimed at business travellers who can expense it.
We checked out at 9am and left our cases securely as we weren't being picked up until 4pm, we were a little disappointed that there was no facility to change out of our winter / day clothes - we had to change in a busy washroom - we weren't the only ones either - so perhaps something for the hotel to consider.
Having said all of the above, the hotel is very nice, it's in a great location - 5 mins to 5th Ave and Empire State and abt 15-20 mins to Times Sq.
