Hotel was right beside the Opera House which we loved! They give free coffee and cookies all day. Hot breakfast was fine.

Mature dowager needs to hire some help

Posted Jan 14, 2018
Pros: Quiet from traffic noise. Great location. Historic. In a nice town.
Cons: Please, Hampton folks--don't pinch pennies nor live on reputation: Hire some more staff !
Location: Would recommend with the above caveats. The town is worth visiting.
Great location, amid a charming town in a refreshing cultural oasis (much needed in outstate Sakerlina), beautiful exterior, full to capacity with a big show next door at the Opera House -- and all run by one solitary undergraduate at the town's college. Catching her between her duties as desk clerk, housekeeper, concierge, maid, security staff, hospitality assistant, and acting manager, I ask where her help is. There is no one else working on this Saturday, she replies with a smile. "This is life at the hotel." Charming, capable, energetic that she is, she is stretched thin; can't be everywhere at once, and urgently needs extra staff to carry out the place's many duties. Please, owners of the Hampton Inn Opera House in Newberry, SC-- hire some help. The room was ok; clean with a very good bed and pillows. Some recent modern touches such as sliding bins, footstools, unadjustable mini-fridge, and new curtains are incongruous and look like an outsider's slapdash fix. The curtain mechanism is puzzling in its design and laughable in its activation. The room was free from traffic noise, and the grand lady is miles from I-26 noise, but if you're close to the lobby or the elevator, expect a lot of foot traffic noise, ice-machine noise, and conversation outside your door. Nice amenities in the bathroom. There is one tiny microwave in the lobby for the entire hotel. Four stars only for location, history, and exterior; two to three stars for how it was staffed this visit.
