historic hotel but tired and understaffed

Attractive historic hotel in fantastic location, but rooms are tired and hotel is understaffed. Extremely expensive and does not deliver given the cost. We arrived at 4.00 to join a very long queue, and then have our name added to the list of rooms which were not ready. Lots of travel-weary families waiting around. Our room was perhaps the worst room in the hotel, overlooking a parking lot and just next to an ugly industrial size air conditioner unit which hummed loudly. Our room smelled badly, maybe of anti-freeze from the unit. For a a five star rate, we expected more than 3 star service and comfort.

Beautiful Hotel at a Perfect Location

Pros: Everything. Staff, room, food, gift shoppe, location...it had it all.
Cons: Can't think of a single thing.
Location: It's on Bellevue in Newport. What isn't there to do? Walkable, shops, beautiful scenery, everything is within walking distance, restaurants!!!
From the moment I arrived, the staff was so nice, my room was ready even though I was quite early. The room was beautiful! Like stepping back into the Gilded Age. Beds were incredibly comfortable, great big screen television, beautiful view. Breakfast was delicious, the wait staff was attentive without "hovering"~~Michele, our server, was so sweet! Great food! The front desk was incredibly helpful with the Mansion Tours, gave us maps, brochures AND an umbrella to borrow! The Roof Top Bar was fun, too. Gym was super nice. All in all, my experience with Hotel Viking was no less than excellent. Cannot wait to go back!

Beautiful Hotel, Great Stay!

Pros: The location, the staff, the room, the rooftop bar, pretty much EVERYTHING
Cons: It was great!
Location: Centrally located, super walk-able, beautiful shops, lots of restaurants, Belleview is the best! Mansion tours, great sightseeing.
The Hotel Viking is wonderful! Our room was lovely, beds were super comfortable. The staff was so accommodating, food was great! Highly recommend!

Nice location but can do better for the price

The price quoted from Expedia was markedly higher when you check out due to the taxes and parking fees. I wouldn't recommend the restaurants. We ate at the rooftop on the first night and it was plastic chairs, cold food that wasn't anything special. The pitcher of sangria was filled to the top with ice and was mostly juice. You couldn't even pour a glass without ice everywhere. We ate breakfast at the main hotel on our last day and tried the buffet. The French toast was soggy from sitting there too long, eggs dry and crusty, bacon/sausage ice cold and no potatoes left. There was a hair in the coffee creamer. We asked the waiter to take off the buffet because it was inedible and he still charged us for the Orange juice (that came with the buffet that wasn't consumed) and he got an horrible attitude The bathrooms are very small and you get 2 very small bath towels. The room itself is a decent size. The location was convenient and bell staff was amazing. Every single one of them were polite and courteous. The overall experience was pleasant but the restaurant experience completely soured the visit. The hostess and waiter were snickering and talking nasty and we were not rude at all. We just simply ordered something else and asked nicely for a creamer without hair. We are very unassuming and generally tip very well. First time ever that I left no tip for a waitstaff.

Beautiful room but extremely small.

Very, very small so much that my husband hit his head in the bathroom. If you do stay ask for a large room.

Nice Old Property

Great place for two nights, I think the rooms have to be more focused on details specially being a beautiful old property. I would renovate rooms in order to fit more properly by paying more attention to details.
