Taking an end of summer stroll along the famous Cliff Walk in Newport. This view of the ocean is right in front of Ochre Court mansion.
It was such a peaceful and tranquil morning in Newport. The rising sun struggled to break through the morning clouds. There was only a few moments to capture such a scene and felt so fortunate to be there. Did you think China, or Japan? This is actually Alva Vanderbilt Belmont’s Chinese tea house, in Newport Rhode Island. Sunrise Here, the soft, gentle morning sun is lighting up the cathedral at St. George's School in Middletown, Rhode Island. The Rose Island lighthouse was built in 1870. During WW1 and WW2, it was used to store explosives as part of the Navy Torpedo Station. The island and its lighthouse are run by the private, non-profit Rose Island Lighthouse Foundation.
The lighthouse has a museum and from the top, one is offered spectacular views of Newport Harbour. 2015. We don't sail but were fortunate to go out with a Naval War College professor who is a master (he races). A beautiful tour of the harbor. This 103 year old house on a rock was built by JS Lovering Wharton (yes, like the B school) as a man cave escape from his sea fearing wife It was purchased by an architect for $3600 (back taxes!), and restored in 1961. It's address? 1 Narragansett Bay ( there is no 2!). Incredibly cool. Inside the Breakers Mansion, Newport Rhode Island.
Built by the Vanderbilt family as a summer home in 1893, the Touched by an angel.
Late in the day on a cold, exhausting, afternoon, I saw this miraculous sight of a woman looking for spiritual inspiration. Something tells me, she found it. The small Goat Island Lighthouse and the Newport Bridge in the background. A very cold and blustery sunset made only colder by the occasional sea spray washing across my face. But when a scene like this offers itself to me, it's so easy to forget the biting cold and focus on the magnificent view. It's late September and Summer is having its final bow before Autumn settles in for good.
I wanted a photo to capture that feel, a very late in the season, summer day in New England with the tired and dried out vegetation, dusty foot paths and a look of something old fashioned, of bygone days. Beautiful Ocean Drive in Newport Rhode Island. This place is beautiful and has some of the most amazing houses I've ever seen! Honor and beautiful old Vanderbilt’s palace “Breakers”. It is like Versailles in France or imperator’s Pavel First palace near St-Petersburg, Russia. This is the time when America was great with grate monopolies as “Standard Oil”, «Carnegie Steel Company», «Accessory Transit Company». It’s a famous “old money”)). When you go to the Newport, better will be there all day and buy $45 ticket for 5 palaces. You can choose which palaces you visit. So you will be spare, like Cornelius Vanlerebilt himself, who refused to give up champagne, because he considered it too expensive. #breakers #newport #asmus_kate #storyteller, #americanhistory #oldmoney
Enjoying the last full weekend of Summer by talking a leisurely stroll along Newport's famed Cliff Walk. The race back to port. Sailing between Hammersmith Farm in Newport and Jamestown There's a nice spot off of Taylor Point in Jamestown that'll give you a great vantage point of the Newport Bridge. There aren't many bridges like this in New England, so I'd consider it a must see if you're in the area. Went to Newport to see Tony Bennett in concert. On the way, drove past First Beach, seeing the sun setting and a thick grey fog rolling in like a heavy blanket. Snapped this shot seconds before the sun was blocked out by the clouds. The scene reminded me of one on Tony's most famous songs, about San Francisco. And yes, he sang it. Beautiful sunset..😎 The pond side A building at the IYRS, boat building school. Newport, RI USA

#StunningStructures Ocean-view walk along a mostly paved path. Mansions from the late 1800s all along the path are reminiscent of castles in Europe. Cliff walk is beautiful and recommended The stairs and the cliffs :) What a beautiful shoreline, it's like walking through a fairytale. Restaurants and shops are amazing and very friendly place to visit. History! Colors! Beautiful. Park anywhere downtown and you'll be able to walk all over the town taking in the beautiful architecture. On Rose Island, a small, often overlooked island in Narragansett Bay. On it is a beautiful little lighthouse. Out of service in the early 1970's but brought back to life through the Rose Island Lighthouse Foundation where people can live at the lighthouse and work as a lighthouse keeper. Beautiful views of Newport Harbor and the open ocean behind.
I could see myself sitting in one of these Adirondack chairs with a glass of Champagne in one hand, watching the boats - any my cares - sail past Everyone needs to take this walk, especially at sunset set. 40 steps Goose neck cove New port R.I. .. Beautiful place to play Great walk about 3.5 miles Slight Drizzle about a mile away created a beautiful rainbow for us I had to use a filter. ... U can see the rain shaft in the left An old fashion in the oldest tavern in America. As an old fashioned lover, this has been the best. And not just because I walked 3 miles for it! The recipe is with a walnut bitters, soaked cherries in brandy and with a cinnamon simple syrup ... I have to cut myself off after two! The Breakers Explored the Newport Mansions in Rhode Island in mid November. Was worried Newport would be dead for the fall/winter but it was great! Almost all shops and restaurants were open and the mansion tours were incredibly fascinating. #troveon #newport #rhodeisland #newengland The strawberries are usually ready for picking in June. I also recommend the strawberry ice cream available in the store! This is one of the many beautifully restored old homes in the colonial section of Newport. Once run down and close to abandon, it has become increasingly fashionable the past 20 years or so. Most were built between 1700 and 1800 and bear the names of original owners and dates constructed (plaques next to front doors on ea house). Incredible part of American history, and makes for a lovely walking tour. This place is great, and an institution in Newport. Classic New England fare, with enough America's Cup memorabilia to satisfy even the most ardent sailing fan. Great vibe throughout including indoor and outdoor spaces, and a really cool bar. The restaurant is smack in the middle of one of the more happening areas in Newport (shopping, nightlife, etc), right next to the Black Pearl! For tennis junkies like me, this is a must see. Took a vc guided tour of the museum, then played a couple sets on the grass; great afternoon! Doris Duke's crib from the stone bridge on the cliff walk in Newport. Interesting and eccentric gal, who lived alone for the most part, in this behemoth. The private, guided tour is well worth it. Every spring, one of my favourite things to see is a field which grows tons of daffodils. This beautiful patch of land is on the side of the road welcoming visitors to Newport.
The flowers bloom for all too short a time. It is such a delight to see and well worth a trip to Newport just for this Art in the ruins Cliff Walk I saw this old knot in a tree and then looked inside. It was a bird's home. But part of me thought on the novel, 'To kill a Mockingbird' and the knot in the tree where Jem and Scout traded things with Boo Radley. Then the light changed, creating this interesting halo, as if to highlight the knot. IYRS is a boat building school in Newport.
Walking around the streets, we came across a sign regarding a 'Walking Tour' and followed it in between the school buildings and into a huge building where they were building this sailboat. A student then found us and started to show us around. He showed us his projects and what other students were working on. He was extremely proud and was very generous to take the time to show us, strangers, around.
If your ever in Newport, I suggest finding this school (449 Thames St). Maybe you'll be lucky enough to be there on one of the days they launch their boats. Wandering around Goat Island by bike led us to a beautiful #beach What a pretty view😀 Newport Rhode Island Its yacht-filled harbor hosted Americans cup. Great sunset spot View of the breathtaking Cliff Walk from Doris Duke's Rough Point Estate in Newport, RI. Enjoyable guided tours of the Duke estate go off hourly for $25 per person (admission price goes to fund restoration projects in Newport). The Cliff Walk is free public access to the shoreline of the island. Walking along Spring Street in Newport, found a small art studio. In the window was his collection of brushes. I just loved the mix of all the colours.
Make sure to wear decent shoes as you explore this beautiful waterfront walk that takes you past historic and modern-day mansions. A snowy view of Newport, Rhode Island. Newport horizon On Narraganset Bay The Cliff Walk Newport, Rhode Island A wonderful treat. This synagogue, the oldest in the US, is of historical importance to both the Jewish community and the general American population. Completely worth checking out. The tour guides are very knowledgeable and the visitors center provides additional historical information. The back if the Elms. A vacation home for Edward Berwind. Created in the Gilded Age and run much like a proper English estate. Take the tour if you are in the area. Arguably the most famous of the Newport mansions, the Breakers is worth every penny.
