If there's nowhere else to stay...

The rooms are outdated and our first room smelled so strongly of smoke (it's a non smoking hotel, or so they say) we had to be moved as it was making us cough. The furnishings are outdated and uncomfortable. The room wasn't outright dirty, but there was a wad of old gum stuck in the carpet and there were stains on the walls and lamp shades, which in my opinion was pretty gross.
The hotel staff was also unprofessional and not accommodating. The staff doesn't wear uniforms/ badges so sometimes it's hard to tell who works there and what they do (safety issue perhaps?). Also we asked for a late check out and they graciously told us we could have no more than 30 mins unless we contacted the manager (he was off).
Last year, because we booked so late for an event the only place in the city with rooms was the Red Roof Inn. It was hands down nicer than this place both in staff and accommodations. For a place that was once an Omni, this is a run down dump. I would only stay here again if it were the only place in the city with rooms... or I'd just bite the bullet and stay in Norfolk.
