A place to know your place!Posted Aug 10, 2015
Pros: It was in Niagara on the lake .....where everyone else we met was charming and helpful.
Cons: The busîness could change hands and be run by someone who cares for her customers comfort and enjoyment.
Location: Cycling to the Falls and back makes a good day out. You'd probably need to prebook if you want to include a boat trip.
Our stay in this charming spot was spoiled by the domineering, inflexible and pretentious landladylandlady who entirely lacked charm. She imposed her no shoes rule with icy firmness, falsely accusing me of breaching it. The breakfasts were served at the hour of her choosing and at a psinfully slow pace...you had to sit there for the full hour. No choice of menu.. Great if you like cake for breakfast, not so good if you fancy fruit or cereal, toast or bacon. But worst of all was her interfering bossiness, demanding to know your plans then running them down. If you're going to the theatre and eating where she suggests, fine but if you plan to cycle to the Falls expect to be disparaged. This is the Fawlty Towers of Niagara on the lake. Stay away.

A home away from homePosted Aug 7, 2015
Pros: Great amenities, locatio close to downtown (walking distance)
Cons: You have to be crazy to change the formula
Location: Walking distance to downtown Wineries all well situated to the B & B Artshow Musical festivals
First time in the Niagara on the Lake and it was a charm. Meryl was a super hostess. She made sure our stay was memorable. She inquired about our food taste and what we wanted to spend. She was a great "seller" of her region. Breakfast was 5 stars. It is the place to go. Rooms are well decorated and sound proof. WiFi and cable TV and a small fridge all in the room. She gaves us wine vouchers for free tasting at different wineries. You cannot go wrong with this B & B.

Best B&B we have stayed at!Posted Jul 17, 2015
Pros: The host Meheroo, the location, food, other guests, what's not to like!
Location: Close to downtown Niagara on the lake, walking distance to theaters, restaurants, close to the gorge bike path, many wineries a short distance.
This was an excellent B&B from start to finish. Very clean, excellent location, excellent breakfast (and I am a fussy eater) but most of all, Meheroo (the owner) was genuinely a pleasure to talk to, was very knowledgeable on dining and activities in the area and went out her way to ensure our stay was wonderful. I cannot see how anyone could rate this B&B as anything but excellent. We have travelled extensively and stayed at many 5 star resorts but this B&B was a jewel and rated right up there. In reading reviews on accommodations we have always seen a few that seem to feel that their sense of entitlement was not fulfilled, but as usual, I am glad we ignored and feel sorry for those people that would probably not be happy anywhere.

Elegant and comfortable, a ideal get away place!Posted Jul 8, 2015
Location: Walking in the picturesque downtown, with beautiful houses and landscaped, luscious gardens. Touring the vineyards on a bicycle.
Lovely house, rooms well-appointed, truly gourmet breakfast, hostess very knowledgeable of the area, kindly and efficiently made reservations for us at restaurants and tours. The house is beautiful, located at a perfect distance from downtown without the noise and cars.

Wonderful Stay!Posted Jul 6, 2015
Pros: The location was perfect. Beautiful gardens.
John's Gate was exactly what we needed. Just far enough away from the busy atmosphere yet close enough to walk uptown. It gave us the quietness and the stress relief we needed. We really enjoyed sitting out on the front porch relaxing with our coffee in the morning and wine (our own) in the evening. The lady of the house was very nice, had a sense of humor, very helpful, and very particular. If you want high class, privacy, delicious gourmet food given precisely on time and with great presentation, a beautiful room with amenities that are cared for with high regard, then this is the place for you. John's Gate is not a stuffy place by any means, but it demands respect and so well deserves it!

Shaw Festival June 2015Posted Jun 30, 2015 on Hotels
This was a 1 Night stay as we were in town for the Shaw Festival. I found Johns Gate online and try to support B & B's. I found the owner to be extreemly dedicated to her property and it shows it. Beautiful home on a beautiful street. Breakfast was outstanding. She would not even let me get out of my chair to get a cup of coffee.

We normally don't stay at B&B's but if all B&B's would be like John's Gate we might start to change our bookings. Meheroo is a lady who invites you to her home. She has a good heart and wants you to have a nice experience in the area. She gives good advice about what to do and what to see and what is the best way to do this money wise and logistically. If you want to have an elegant gourmet breakfast with things you normally don't take the time to do at home - you have come to the right place. We stayed at John's for three nights and had a new breakfast experience every morning. However, if you want bacon and egg - you should go somewhere else! We stayed in the king room and the bed is really good with a nice bathroom. Everything is managed into detail and kept spotless. We can highly recommend John's Gate gourmet Bed and Breakfast.
