HALF WAY BETWEEN NICE + MONACO - South of France

Pros: FRIENDLY STAFF! Location. Short walk to Beaulieu-sur-Mer + railway station for Monaco/Nice. Nearby restaurant options by foot. Beach 5 min.Breakfast!
Cons: NOISE from college next door via hard court football pitch! Bar facility poor. Decoration in parts. Expensive car parking charge!
Location: Beach, Casino, great dining options, rail station to Monaco/Nice, Beaulieu market square, St John Cap Ferrat, Eze, Menton, history/culture, hire boat
Used to stay in St John Cap Ferrat/Beulieu-sur-Mer area every year for 10 years in August until 2006 in fact. So got to know area well by car + walking. This time we stayed for only 5 nights to celebrate a very special birthday for my wife. I chose the Hotel Carlton in Beulieu-sur-Mer (next to St John Cap Ferrat) because of its location, less exclusive (this is 4* though I have always thought France hotel rating can be over generous to be honest!) than more local hotels nearby and therefore by French standards not bad value for money. The STAFF at this Hotel are fantastic! I applaud "Dee" (lady) from Ireland. She was absolutely charming + helpful. Sadly I for get the name of the first lady we met who checked us in on May 20 at lunch time.

Pros: The location
Cons: The small room could be renovated in a way that it could make the stay more pleasant.
Location: Go to Monaco!. Also the coast of Beaulieu is guiet and beautiful.
I was looking for a relatively affordable hotel in the area since anything close to Monaco is Monaco priced. Overall the hotel is very nice. The room though was very small like it use to be a storage room made in a hotel room. Probably that is how we could get the low price considering the area. The location is great as the town of Beaulieu is very beautiful and just 10 minutes by train to Monaco. I would suggest it just as a base to go to Monaco a lot and just return to the room to sleep.

Lovely quiet hotel

Pros: The quaintness, it's an old hotel, and in some ways it is holding onto the way things used to be, in my opinion lovely, don't change.
Cons: The only thing would be the bathroom, when we tried to get the shower on, the shower head would not stay facing down. Tiles also looking a bit sad.
Location: Beach 5 minute walk, the harbour, with restaurants a nice 20ish minute walk, whilst passing shops, Monaco and Nice a short car drive.
A very nice quiet hotel, close to the beach and walking distance to restaurants, lovely pool and very comfy sun lounges, the staff were very helpful and kind, breakfast at €11.00 is good value as there is so much choice, and lunch really good as well. Ok, the hotel is not perfect, a few things could be put right, steps to the pool were loose, maybe the wooden bedroom furniture could do with a big clean and polish, as it did have that old furniture smell, you wouldn't want to change it as it adds characture, the shower in the bathroom was a bit awkward to use, and this would maybe be the only thing that could do with a bit of modernizing, but quite frankly this all added to the charm of this hotel, we stayed in the small room, which was adequate for our 2 night stay. I would definitely recommend this hotel if you are after a peaceful and relaxing time.

Shabby, but not shabby chic.

Pros: The swimming pool area has enough sun for those who want sun, and enough shade for those who want shade, the pool itself is a decent size.
Cons: The room by far.
Location: Good location, easy access to the main roads without the noise and traffic. Quiet residential area
I stayed in 2 different rooms, both were very outdated and shabby. The 'breakfast buffet' at the price of 10 Euros-or just under 15 dollars was comprised of low cost breakfast items and low quality products. The swimming pool closes early, so no chance for an early evening swim. Parking was 8 Euros per night-10+ dollars but limited space. The tv signal goes in and out so it was impossible to watch. For 2 days, the internet was out-I was in the South of France for professional reasons, and unable to email. When the internet was functioning the signal was also in and out, and too weak to connect at the pool.

The hotel is very well situated and well marked on the main roads. The buffet breakfast served on the terrace is worth paying the extra fee. Our only complaint was the size of the room-too small for two persons although it did contain all the amenities. The staff was very helpful with directions to various sights and provided special maps. All the beautiful villages and town were 15-25 minutes drive away, the Nice airport only 15 minutes away. We would stay there again, but pay a little more to get a bigger room! There is also parking behind the hotel or street parking right outside.

Great Location and Charm!

The hotel was in a great location, within walking distance to the small seaside town shops and restaurants. There was a beautiful marina and beach right down the street. It was on a bus line that took you for $1.35 from Nice to Monaco! The hotel itself was immaculate and had beautiful sea views (3rd fl. facing sea) and a beautiful French country hillside (3rd fl. facing side) . I can't wait to go back and would stay there again and again. It was VERY reasonable for a large room with large french windows and ceilings. The small seaside town it was located in was perfect, lots of restaurants, cafe's and patisseries and shops. There were two marinas within walking distance as well as a beautiful beach! It was only a 15 min. car trip to the city of Nice and 30 min. to Italy.

We thorougly enjoyed our stay at the Carlton Beaulieu Hotel. Our room was lovely, clean and comfortable, all members of the staff have been very friendly and the location of the hotel is ideal (situated in a quiet area, though still very close to the promenade and the beaches). We were there in mid-October and could still use the facilities of the pool without any problems. Will certainly come back!
