Very pleasant stay in Nice

Posted Oct 5, 2016
Pros: Location, owner and accommodations
Location: Located near Old town, restaurants and a short walk to the promenade
The hotel is situated very near to the old town, close to many restaurants and within walking distance to the promenade. The accommodations were quiet and the room and bathroom clean and well maintained. The air-conditioned room was a welcome feature since we had a very warm September visit. We were warmly greeted by Gilles and Cosette the friendly lovable dog. Gilles, the owner of the B&B offered the best suggestions about the places to visit and we had a wonderful breakfast conversation. We would certainly re-book if we return to Nice.

Go somewhere else!

Posted Aug 3, 2016 on Hotels
We really did not enjoy this hotel. It's not so much a hotel as it is a few apartments converted into hotel rooms, but surrounded by other apartments. There is a list of names in the building with corresponding buzzers; then there's one for "HOTEL." It's far from the center of action in Nice, it's poorly marked, the reception area was hot, the room is extremely small and tight, the beds and bedding were old, and the bathroom was tiny with no ventilation. To be fair, it wasn't a terrible experience. (The staff was kind. The room was functional.) But it wasn't an enjoyable one either.

Cosette and I thank you for your comment even with so many inaccuracy. Building was built in 1905 and the part of the hotel was transformed in Hotel ("Pension de Famille") in 1910. As described on Hotels.com, it is a small hotel more like bed and breakfast style (this category doesn't exist in France) with 7 rooms. We are not the only one like that, for example in Italy you have many like us. Most of the rooms are quite big, only one is small, we decided to name it "Cabin room" in order to explain it. The hotel is not far from center as we are in the center; 3 mn walk to the Promenade des Anglais, 5 mn walk from many restaurants and shopping area, 10/15 mn walk from old town and 10 mn walk from train station. Beds are not old at all, hotel was completely renovated in 2011 and all mattresses were change last year (by the company because there was default in some). That's mean beds are very new. In All bathrooms you have ventilation. We are very sorry that you didn't like our hotel but it was not possible to leave a comment with mistakes. Many guests and reviews prove that we are managing very hardly to give the best to all our guests.

This hotel is in a really good location and Gilles is the perfect host! He'll let you know about all of the best spots around the hotel whether you're looking for shopping or food. I would honestly stay here again.

Old and Noisy

Posted Jul 25, 2016
Undesirable hotel. Worn out and well used. Could not sleep due to "macerator toilets" churning all night. Smelled of sewage in the barhroom. Cannot recommend this hotel. Overall a disappointment. Can't understand how it rates a 4.4. I based my decision on the unreliable score.

Cosette and I thank you for your review as they are all very important for us. Hotel was complitely renovated 5 years ago and is renovated in some part every year in November and december. It is not worn at all. It is an old charming building with wood floor and fireplace. Old does not mean worn! I don't understand your reaction about the saniflow, which only works when you use it, never all night long, and it is not so noisy. I am very sensitive to all kind of smell and I even have to ask somebody else because sometimes I am too sensitive to a smell that I am the only who can figure it. We check again your room and there was no sewage smell. So many guests love the hotel because it is charming, well located with many services offered and warm atmosphere. We are working very hard only for one goal : Enjoy our guests and give them the best we can.

A little gem in Nice

Posted Jul 2, 2016 on Hotels
My friend and I spent 5 nights in the Hotel Victor Hugo while we were in Nice for the EURO 2016 football championships. This a small hotel but a real find, the establishment was brilliant it could not be faulted and well managed by Gilles our charming host. He welcomed you at breakfast were he explained how to use the coffee machine and was at hand to advise on attractions and places to go and see. There was plenty of fresh produce at breakfast which could be eaten in the dining area or could be carried of to your bedroom. We enjoyed meeting other residents discussing what we had done the day before and what we planned to do on the day. Brilliant Hotel. Had difficulty finding establishment on the Boulevard Victor Hugo. There is no big signs or number above the door or anything, it is lovely building so check the number of the houses close to it, that is 53, 55, 57, 59. Rue has a lot of professional practices, doctors, solicitors etc.
