Don't judge a book by its cover

Posted Sep 5, 2017
I came to Norfolk to celebrate the birthday of my sister who attends NSU. I booked the hotel last minute but the rating wasn't too bad and being a Wyndham I knew it couldn't be that terrible. Checking in was great and the agent was very friendly! She explained everything. The lobby is beautiful so I expected the same of the room? NO! Entering the room you immediately notice the bathroom is the size of the elevator. You can access the toilet from the shower which is weird. No space to change clothes, move around, etc. The bathtub was horrible, of course I didn't expect it to be sparkling white and shiny but needless to say, I DID NOT shower at the hotel, I went on campus and used my sisters, that's how uncomfortable I was using that shower. Even after I went to the extent of disinfecting the room, I still couldn't bring myself to step foot in the shower. After running the A/C, it began to smell of mildew a little to me. Upon disinfecting the room, I sprayed the room to the tv and after wiping it with a rag, there was a brown residue that came off of it. Now I know that they say it's the dirtiest thing usually in a hotel room but wow! That was disturbing, I never turned the tv back off or turned the channel. There were dust bunnies on the walls above my bed. I only stayed one night which is why I didn't even bother to change rooms and I did not arrive back to the hotel until very late at night and after driving 4 hours, I was over it! NEVER AGAIN!

We are so sorry that you experienced several issues with the room that you were given. We know that a comfortable room is often the most important part of a guest’s stay, so your frustration is completely warranted, and I apologize that we were unable to properly address your concerns at checkout. I will share your comments with our staff, and hope that perhaps in the future you will consider coming back and giving us all a second chance. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.

Norfolk Stay

Posted Aug 24, 2017
The hotel was located close to downtown so you easily walk. However, the side door was never locked; anyone could enter. The bathroom had peeling wall paper and the shower was stained. The only room service we received was empty garbage and new towels.

Roaches, staff didn't care

Posted Aug 24, 2017
Hotel is out dated, not well maintained and we had roaches in our room. Staff informed and they did not care to make it right. Terrible hotel. Don't waste your money. Also breakfast that you have to pay for isn't worth the money and they charge for parking. Many better hotels in the area.

Old renovated building, trying too hard to be new

Posted Aug 23, 2017
The hotel is in an old building and smells like straight musk and mildew. Staff at check-in we're more interested in the conversation with each other than focusing on the new customer. They gave us a room key that didn't work, and we went back down and proceeded to tell us it was our fault because we needed to make sure there were no magnets close to the key. We go back up try again, doesn't work. Went back down, they tried resetting it and we went back up for it not to work again. It took us 4 tries before they sent someone up to help us get into the room. Once we were able to get into the room, hoping the smell of mildew was only in he lobby and hallways. Nope. Same disgusting smell. The paint on the mirror was chipping off. Multiple outlets didn't work. Paint job throughout the room was horrible. That wasn't even the worst part, you go into the bathroom and the tub had multiple pieces of hair left behind. This lead to further inspection to find more hair on the floor. The base of the tub was stained black and brown. Towels were stained. It was absolutely disgusting and unacceptable. This would all make sense if I was paying for a cheap hotel but, for $141, after tax $172... oh and let's not forget the $10 charge just to park your car... it was not worth it.

Creepy, dark decor. Location is across from bus station, near public housing projects, salvation army store and closed up shops. Hotel locks side entrances at night for safety. Room itself was clean and comfortable but location and decor were not what I expected or would have chosen.

The Shinning

Posted Jul 24, 2017
Pros: close to the convention center, on site bar
Cons: decorations, staff, updated hotel furniture, better lighting, updated entrance, fix the front door,
Location: convention center
The lobby of this hotel is decorated very weird. Elevators are extremely slow. The dresser drawers in the room are unable to shut. The rugs have a lot of stains on them. The view of the hotel is miserable. The staff at the front desk lack customer service skills and can be snippy. There favorite word seems to be NO. There is nothing about this hotel that begs 280 per night. Its real value is at around 50 per night. The only plus I can give this hotel is that it is right across the street from the convention center which is walkable.

Such a rip off

Posted Jul 17, 2017
I'd like to start by saying, the reviews are all true. I didn't look at them befor booking, and that was a mistake. I saw Wyndham and assumed it was decent. The room was gross, the bathroom specifically. There were hairs everywhere. The room smelled like smoke. The halls smelled indescribable. The staff was very nice, but doesn't suffice for the Tracy hotel. I paid 285.00 for one night. I should have been paid to stay there.
