Friendly and Relaxing!

Hotel needs some work

Pros: Location
Cons: The rooms, carpets, locks, the pool facility needed cleaning.
Location: Sunset beach, and many restaurants close by.
The location of this Best Western is pretty good; just a few minutes walk to a fantastic beach. The hotel itself seems rundown. Our room had a very noisy air-conditioner, a broken lock on the door and the fridge didn't stay cold. The hallway smelt like gasoline. I'm not usually one to complain, but for what we paid, these issues should not have happened. On the upside, the lady at the front desk was super friendly and helpful. She recommended all sorts of activities for us to do.

Smoke and Mirrors

Cons: Install elevators get rid of the fish smell in the lobby

We purchased a room with a Queen size bed through Expedia, when we arrived for a wedding in the hotel, we were put into a room with 2 double beds. When my wife went down to discuss why she was told that because we purchased the room through a 3rd party (Expedia) the hotel reserved the right to change our room without any notice, but to keep us happy they would switch us to another room with a queen bed. They went on to explain that it all stemmed from us getting a better deal through Expedia. My problem with this is that we were made feel like we were second rate because we found a better deal than what they were offering all the other people for the wedding. The next day when the room had been made up my wife mentioned that the hotel had not supplied any shampoo or conditioner. I went out into the hallway where the cleaners were still making up rooms and asked if I could get a shampoo and a conditioner. The cleaner asked what room I was in and when she checked on her list I was informed that unless it was a suite the hotel did not supply conditioner. The overall room was clean and comfortable but because of the way were treated and their policies we will not be returning.

OK Hotel close to Lake Nipissing

Location: Sunset park about a half klick from the hotel, gives great beach access to Lake Nipissing.
Overall hotel was good, with a nice restaurant offering good food. Only had breakfast, so can't comment on dinner/lunch. Upon arriving at the room had to give the stuck door a good kick to get it to open. For the most part the room was clean, the only quibbles were the tub overflow drain was broken and shower head was leaky, and water continued to drain from the main faucet filling up the tub which was slow to drain. Beds were firm and comfy. A/C was very effective, i.e. nice and cold. Had an adjoining room for my mother which she accidentally locked using the night dead bolt from the inside when leaving via our room. My wife went to the front desk to get help and they arranged to get the off duty manager to come and jimmy her door open. He did a commendable and prompt job getting the door open but took a rather condescending, "what a dumb thing to do", attitude toward my wife as he did his work. The only good to come of that incident is we were given free breakfast vouchers.

A Fine Hotel, But What About Smokers?

The hotel and staff are fine for visitors to North Bay. However, I am a smoker and would like to see minimal accommodations for smokers. There are no benches or tables outside for smokers to sit and perhaps work on a computer or read. There is plenty of space. There are two benches in front, but nothing on either side nor in the rear. Most smokers don't like to be 'put on display' in the front, or trouble those entering/exiting the building. Also, most guests use the side and rear doors anyway.

I was very pleased with the hotel. Loved the idea of a coin clothes dryer to dry off our swim suits. Would stay there again without question.

Great spot for a stop over

Stopped in on our trip north. One night stay met all expectations. Good location, good facilities. Highly recommend. 4 stars... would be 5 but hotel is a bit dated.

We have recently freshened up the entire pool area and had just purchased more fridges and microwaves. We have changed all our guest room pillows as well as replaced all bed coverings. We do hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back the next time you are in North Bay!
