Pros: THE LOCATION WAS THE BEST FEATURE. THE BREAKFASTS WERE ALSO REASONABLE ALTHOUGH THERE WAS NOT A GREAT CHOICE ON THE TABLE.
Cons: WHEN ROOMS ARE ADVERTISED AS A DOUBLE ENSUITE, THEY SHOULD BE OF A STANDARD SIZE TO ENSURE TRAVELLERS ARE AWARE PRIOR TO BOOKING.
Location: YORK IS A FASCINATING CITY WITH PLENTY OF THINGS TO DO. UNFORTUNATELY IT RAINED THE ENTIRE TIME WE WERE THERE WHICH LIMITED THE CERTAIN ACTIVITIES.
HOSTESS A LITTLE DICTATORIAL ON ARRIVAL. FELT LIKE WE WERE BEING GIVEN A LECTURE. LIST OF DO'S AND DONT'S THE MINUTE WE ARRIVED, EVEN BEFORE WE HAD UNLOADED OUR LUGGAGE. THE ROOM WAS VERY DISAPPOINTING AS IT WAS SO SMALL IT WAS IMPOSSIBLE TO MOVE AROUND WITHOUT BUMPING INTO EACH OTHER. IT WAS LISTED AS A DOUBLE ROOM WHICH WAS FALSE ADVERTISING. THE DOUBLE BED TOOK UP PRACTICALLY THE ENTIRE SPACE EVEN TO THE POINT THAT THE HOSTESS SUGGESTED WE COULD LEAVE OUR LUGGAGE DOWNSTAIRS IN A CUPBOARD. THERE WAS ALSO NO SHAMPOO OR CONDITIONER IN THE BATHROOM.THE ONLY REALLY PLUS WAS THE LOCATION AS IT WAS WITHIN WALKING DISTANCE OF MOST ATTRACTIONS.

Dear Mr Liddle, We have received your review of your stay, and note that you were not happy, we do ask all our guests if there are any problems, and apart from you not understanding the controls of the shower, you did not say anything further. However, it would have been nice to have been informed that you had actually pulled the shower control away from the wall. Being a vegetarian does restrict the breakfast menu, however we do cater for special diets and we did not receive a complaint from you. On arrival we inform guests of the car parking and places of interest in the city and how to get there, we do not feel that this is dictatorial, we call it helpful and lots of guests appreciate this. We are a Victorian guest house and not a hotel, our rooms are of different shapes and sizes, and whilst we do try to accommodate all our guests requirements we will not be able to please everybody.......

Ideally placed for city centre

Pros: This guest house was all we were expecting and more.
Cons: Nothing
Location: The location is well situated for the city centre and there is plenty of thing to see and do in and around York.
On arrival we were warmly greeted and informed of places to eat and see. The room was lovely, warm and well presented. We had a shared shower room and toilet which was clean and presentable, which was no problem for us. They provided robes and towels for us to use. Breakfast was plenty and cooked well. The guest house was well situated with a 10 minute walk from the city centre, and a bus stop just over the road. The guest house also provided us with a parking permit for the duration of our stay. Better than some hotels we have stayed in. We would recommend this guest house for anyone to stay at.

Great B&B close to city center.

Pros: Delightful room, very clean and comfortable. Breakfast was delicious. Our hosts Steve and Janine were so helpful and charming.
Cons: The WiFi was spotty at times.
Location: Bought the York city pass and that worked out to be an economical way to see the sights we wanted. Toured the Minster, Clifford's tower, etc
We had come to Britain for 2 weeks for a work conference and then decided to extend after and visit York for a few days before we returned to the US. We found Chelmsford Place online and the reviews were positive and the price was good. We stayed there 4 days/3 nights. We took the #7 Bus from the train station and it stopped right by the B&B. While there it was an easy walk into the center of York, most days had a lovely walk along the river which was the next street over. Enjoyed our time in the city, saw so much history and did some fun activities such as the York Chocolate factory tour and the York Dungeon program. Had a wonderful stay at Chelmsford place, our room was lovely, very clean and comfortable. The breakfast every morning is made to order and very delicious. Steve and Janine were so nice and accommodating, really great hosts.
