Friendly, clean, well located.Posted Nov 16, 2015
The staff are very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The room was clean and very comfortable and the evening meal and breakfast were excellent. The hotel is a pleasant ten minute walk to the centre of York and its' many visitor attractions. We were a family with two young children and would definitely stay here again.

Lovely family run hotel near the heart of York.Posted Oct 22, 2015
Pros: Friendly staff, comfy beds, nice breakfast, real fire in the lobby, lovely short walks to town, clean, the massage treatments.
Cons: The last flight of stairs were not quite as clean as the rest of the establishment. The sound in the phone did not always work.
Location: Easy flat walk to town, especially beautiful if you choose the river or museum gardens route in the day time. Lots to do, see and eat in York!
A lovely atmosphere, with very helpful and caring staff who were not intrusive. The room was very comfortable but there were quite a few stairs up to ours which my mother found a little challenging, the chair on the landing was a cherished spot. Breakfast was fine, lots to choose between and the staff served quickly on our arrival and the food was cooked to order and ready for us as soon as we had finished our cereal. The communal areas had comfy sofas and a real fire in the evening. The walk to town could take three routes; river, gardens or main road for the dark evenings - beautiful bonuses.

Nice hotel close to city centrePosted Oct 20, 2015
Pros: Location, parking, close to city centre, comfortable and quiet room.
Cons: A rail for clean towel storage in bathroom.
Location: York is an excellent city to visit for 3 nights.
Very convenient to be able to park the car for free and only a few minutes walk from York centre. Comfortable room overlooking the railway line but train noise was not disturbing. We had an apartment facility so did not partake of any meals. However from what we could see they were of good standard.

A good British style hotelPosted Sep 17, 2015
Pros: The rooms are spacious and comfortable. There is a very good breakfast at a reasonable cost.
Cons: There is civil work going on in the street outside the hotel and there was little evidence of progress while we were there
Location: All the attractions of York are easily reached on foot. The National Railway Museum is a must see for all engineering oriented people.
The hotel is an older style hotel as are commonly found in the United Kingdom. The hotel is well positioned within easy walking distance of the attractions of York. The staff are helpful and try to assist at every opportunity/

Convenient HotelPosted Aug 24, 2015 on Hotels
The hotel is well situated for the old side of town, eg York Minster and the Shambles. The hotel is clean and the staff were excellent. Note that parking is down a parallel street and not accessible from the front of the hotel. It is very convenient but you need directions to find it. Only a 6 min walk into talk.

One night in York on our way to ScotlandPosted Aug 16, 2015 on Hotels
Spent one night at the hotel on our way to Scotland. Good location to see the Minster with good access to the medieval part of town. Not too far from the train station - about 15 minute walk. It was quite warm and there was not a room fan to be had, so probably better in the cooler months. Had to leave early so we did not take breakfast there. Would like to have tried the sauna, but our schedule was too tight. All in all a nice place on a very quiet side street (we had to sleep with the window open due to the warm temps). Furnishings are a little tired. They do have beer on tap.

A great weekend stay!Posted May 18, 2015 on Hotels
We arrived in Hedley house this weekend to celebrate my friend's stag do in York, and overall, the experience was fantastic. The first thing worth noting is that this is one of the few hotels in York where we could actually get a room for one night over the weekend, with three separate single beds. We arrived by train, and the hotel was just a 10 minute walk from the station via the gardens, and located only a five minute walk away from the Shambles, with a small Sainbury's located close by if you have forgotten any of those overnight essentials. Upon arriving, we were made to feel welcome by the reception staff (note that you do not make payment until you checkout). The room was big, with a large spacious en suite bathroom, and the ONLY reason I've marked the 'room comfort' section down was because one of the single beds was sunk in a little (not mine, I had a great nights sleep!)and we STILL have yet to figure out how to open the window (that, combined with the fact that there is no air conditioning and it was lovely weather made it feel like a sauna when three of us woke next morning). Overall though, it was very comfortable and the three of us felt it was good value for the price and location. We will definitely be returning! :)
