Rooms red hot and rock hard bedsPosted Dec 21, 2015
Thought we would book one of the 'best' hotels in York for our Christmas break together as a family as its been a busy year an needed to have some quality time together. Friendly staff on check in nice clean room but woah, get that window open it was really warm!!! Went out, came back much later & room still hot even though window had been open and radiator was on its lowest. Ordered room service as it was too late at 7 ish to take our 4 year old out again for food. Took best part of hour an half for the food to arrive, it was mainly cold but still ate it as we we're starving. Bed felt firm but passible but as the room just got hotter in the night an the bed turned out to rediculously firm and my wife an i probably got about 3-4 hours of broken sleep and i had a very sore back and neck. Finally got to sleep in early hours but then out of nowhere the radiator started banging an clanging 18" from my head at 5.30am for 20 mins. Just could not sleep with frustration so had to lay there trying to get comfy by lying on pillows.Basically two of the worse nights sleep i have ever had in a hotel. Spoke to reception on checkout and the girl even agreed about the hard beds and the heat - well why has this not been dealt with? Madness.Got the room service bill wavered and one nights car parking as they charged 3 nights not 2 that we were their for but that was it.Overall it could have been a great hotel as many have said but the heat, beds and really slow room service ruined our stay.

Hilton by name only !Posted Dec 7, 2015
Pros: Staff and valet parking
Cons: Beds and bathrooms and the price for the overall experience
Location: The Hilton is ideally placed for the city centre just 5mins from city square and the shambles and ten from the Minster .
Well what can you say when you go to one off the high class hotel chains for a weekend break and because of the hardest beds you are ever liable to have the misfortune to sleep in can't wait to go home and get some sleep. It was very noisey all night due to the road adjacent to the hotel and noisey gangs of people passing after a late night out. The mattress is laid on a solid wooden board ! No lats no spring and not a very thick mattress either. The room on the whole is clean if Badly laid out if someone is using the desk / dressing table you can't walk round the bed. As for the bathroom its was so small that the bath was no more than a shower bath only , I'm only 5"6 and couldn't lie down without my knees sticking up out the water. On the plus side the staff were very helpful and polite and couldn't do enough for you. To sumarise I have stayed in York about a dozen or so times at inns and hotels do yourself a favour and stay in the grand or the dean court and pay the extra it works out cheaper in the end if not stay in one of the many inns because they are just as good if not better because you get a decent bed to sleep in.

Central HotelPosted Dec 4, 2015
Pros: Good location close to all the attractions we wanted to visit.
Had a great stay. The staff at this hotel were fantastic, friendly, professional and a credit to the hotel. The breakfast had a large selection and was fresh and items kept replenished. The only down point we encountered was the shower was very slow, but it wasn't a big problem it just took longer to shower.

Perfect locationPosted Nov 18, 2015
Pros: The location could not have been more perfect
Cons: More veggie options at breakfast please
Location: Opposite castle, York minister, dungeons, Viking centre and theatres all within a few minutes walking distance, great history/culture trip!
10 minutes from train station, walking distance to all the sights, right in front of the castle. The staff were lovely, helpful and knowledgeable. The room was clean and comfortable and breakfast was great, although would have been nice to have more veggie options.

Very disappointing hotel considering its reputation. It was in a great location but the room was very small and dingy. No ice bucket which seems to be standard in other hotels such as the Marriot. Took a very long time to book in. Would not recommend it
