Nice hotel on the exterior close enough to York

Posted Nov 19, 2016
Pros: outdoor appearance, parking area.Excellent breakfast.
Cons: Decor could be updated.Rooms were small though nicely furnished.
Location: York could not have been a more attractive city to visit from all points of view.
We were disappointed with the general atmosphere and aura. It wasn't very personal. It wasn't very busy. The interior , although in keeping with old York style/era , needs an overhaul/upgrade. Great heating system however.

Value for money

Posted Nov 1, 2016
Pros: pretty good location with approximately 20 minutes steady walk into York centre and 10-15 minutes to the railway station
Cons: Not personally applicable but when booking should check room suitability. Some ground floor rooms but no lift to upper rooms.
Location: Location handy for the city centre, about 20 mins walk, but bus stop is outside the hotel. Few food/drink shops and good pub, The Volunteer, close
An enjoyable stay with friendly helpful staff. My single room (which was specifically for single travellers) was a good size, I have stopped in smaller. Breakfast was exceptional with something for everyone and table service for cooked food. Bar available if required but did not use on this occasion. Hotel is close to main road so some steady noise but not exceptional. Good bus seervice if needed.Overall a good experience and would use it again happily

Lovely little hotel

Posted Sep 5, 2016
Pros: The friendly staff, car park and fantastic breakfast!
Cons: The rooms although nice could do with a little modernising but thats just personal preference and doesn't affect the hotel's facilities.
Location: Walking distance from York city centre, and easy to get too off the A59
I was nervous to stay here as the photos online made the place look out-dated and old-fashioned. While the rooms could do with an update, they had everything in them I required for my overnight stay and the staff were fantastic who really went above and beyond to accommodate me. I would definitely use this hotel again and recommend it to others.

Nice hotel easy walking distance of Town Centre

Posted Aug 14, 2016
Pros: Staff welcoming and very helpful. Great location easy walking distance from Railway Station and to the town centre. Food and service was great.
Location: Location was great, 15 min walk from Railway station, but staff were able to advise of easy shortcuts. 15 mins to city centre.
Have visited York on a couple of occasions before and really enjoyed my recent visit again. So easy to get to and the hotel location as great. Find the people friendly and helpful and always plenty to see and do and plenty of places to eat and drink.

Pros: Very clean. Nice reception staff.
Cons: Run the hotel for the benefit of the guests.
Very disappointing. Restaurant not open for evening meal after long journey. Hotel courtyard locked up for night ridiculously early. Incredibly small portions for breakfast.
