Poor service and lost booking.

Last weekend I undertook a 6 hour drive on my own to visit my 103 year old Grandmother in Scarborough who had been unwell. As I was uncomfortable about spending a Saturday night in Scarborough on my own, particularly after such a long drive, I chose to book a room at Ox Pasture Hall as this is out of the centre, I knew I would be able to park and also get something to eat. The room was booked through Expedia and I received a normal confirmation email. On arriving at 7pm on Saturday 12th September I was kept waiting for over 20minutes as apparently the system needed to re boot. Eventually I was dealt with only to be told they had no record of my booking and in fact had been having problems with bookings coming through from Expedia. I got the distinct impression that they weren't really bothered by this problem. As the hotel was full the receptionist agreed to ring and find me a room elsewhere. As I don't know Scarborough and she was aware I was on my own and very tired I assumed this would be of a similar type and quality. In fact I was booked into The Royal! This entailed a drive back into Scarborough, a 20 minute drive around the city centre to find a parking space and a 10 minute uncomfortable walk back though a now very lively town to the hotel. The hotel itself was of a very much lower standard than Ox Pasture Hall and not one I would have booked myself. The room was unpleasant, uncomfortable and I was unable to get food. The whole experience was extremely upsetting.

Beautiful setting with stunning views,

Cons: Management, staff availability and being able to book into your room before the wedding so that you can get ready properly rather than having to do so
Although this was a beautiful setting for a wedding, which is why we stayed, the hotel management was appalling, we couldn't book into our room until after the ceremony, my husband changed in the car park! On arrival we asked for a pot of tea which arrived 45 minutes later! Like dish water and totally undrinkable. No staff to open the bar, the reason being 3 people had phoned in sick - not our problem you should have a contingency plan when you have a wedding booked. Disorganisation continued throughout the day, no one to serve the after ceremony drinks and so many people not aware they were there to toast the Bride and Groom! No experienced staff in attendance during the reception, bar staff very limited - 2, one of whom admitted it was the first time she had worked behind the bar. Breakfast the following morning was a continuation - toaster didn't work, had to wait ages for a cup of tea. Having said all that the venue and rooms - when we eventually booked in! Beautiful surroundings and comfortable room. Fantastic scenery, and wonderful setting for a wedding, pity the management couldn't cope.

Nice Hotel, Great location, little over priced

Pros: Location, food was excellent, most staff were very friendly and attentive.
Cons: Finish the rooms off, and for the price a few more luxuries, I do feel that the price was not quite justified by the hotel in general.
Location: Loved the Location.
We stayed 2 nights for a Wedding After arriving late the night before the wedding, missing our fine dinning experience!!! we were greeted by some very friendly staff, and even though food service had stopped, arranged for us to have a light snack. Our room was upgraded to a suite, which looked like it had recently been re-decorated or perhaps even built. It was done to a nice standard, albeit with some little things not quite complete. Breakfast was fabulous, quick service and great food. Wedding went off like a dream with excellent staff and great food, and generally we had a great couple of nights. I would have to say that the hotel does not quite meet the expectations of their web site, and does not quite meet the expectations of a hotel at these sort of prices. If it were priced a little more competitively, would have no hesitation in staying there again.

Great place for all the family and dog friendly

Cons: Can't think of any
Location: Beautiful location and handy for other local places like Whitby and Robin hood Bay
Lovely hotel in a beautiful setting, very high standard all round, very friendly staff, would stay again without hesitation, and for those people with dogs it was ideal. Great place for all.

Location: Exquistite natural beauty
Beautiful hotel fabulous surroundings excellent Resturant Helpful staff.. Will certainly revisit soon
