A very pleasant hotel, but a few problemsPosted Jun 14, 2013
Pros: The quiet location and the fine presentation of the public rooms and areas were quite stunning. The garden with fishpond was a nice place to relax.
Cons: The meals: the food was good, but often not exactly what we thought we had ordered-e.g. different vegetables and trimmings were served most days.
Location: The Angel Inn is a 20 minute drive from Thirsk on scenic country roads, close to the main tourist areas of North Yorks, the Dales, Teeside and York.
The Angel Inn is in a quiet and beautiful rural location. The Post Offices doubles as the only shop with a limited stock and there is one other Pub in the village. A car is needed to get out and about as there is a very limited bus service and the village does not have much scope for long walks. The presentation of the public rooms at the Angel Inn, the outside dining area and garden were excellent. Our twin room was pleasant and very clean. Workmen were installing fire alarms and fitting carpets etc. throughout our stay ready for the transfer of ownership of the Angel Inn from mid-June. This could explain why the 3 members of staff on duty during our stay were not very pro-active. We did not sample the cooked breakfast, but the menu offered looked fine. The evening Menu served for two days was from the Lunchtime Light Bite menu which we were asked to take from 5.30 to 7pm and the new evening Menu, introduced for the remainder of our stay, was not without problems. The provision of all meals was rather bizarre with the meals we ordered being supplied with accompaniments different to those displayed on the menu. Hopefully, this will be rectified when the new Owner and staff are settled in. We enjoyed our stay and if we come to the area in the future, we would return to the Angel Inn.

Great Evening MealsPosted May 22, 2013 on Hotels
We enjoyed our stay the hotel staff were vey accommodating and the evening meals were excellent. Only thing was the power of the shower there was none and the pillows were like rocks. But I am sure they can be rectified.

Great Value. Great Meal. Met Criteria.Posted Mar 6, 2013 on Hotels
We just needed a room for the night after an event in the area, so I was looking for a decent, clean place to stay without frills. On arrival we were welcomed by the owner, courteous and friendly. We were immediately comfortable with the place and the room was fine and clean as required. We asked at check-in if a menu could be sent up to the room, as there were some great aromas coming from the kitchen. No problem, it arrived 5 mins later. Bathroom and shower was fine, with plenty of clean towels and shampoo/soap etc. We then had one of the best country pub meals we've ever had from a varied menu. Fresh ingredients made to order in delicious sauces and with a good wine selection. It was noticeable that the staff were efficient but also smiling, relaxed and knowledgeable (rare these days) and the atmosphere was nice, no stressed clients or management and we thoroughly enjoyed our meal. Breakfast was the same as the evening meal. Fresh ingredients, cooked to order and coffee/tea and juice on tap! Great value, good people, mission accomplished and we would recommend to anyone wanting good value for money.
