We've just had a wonderful stay at the Elk's Head. Arrived 2pm for check-in and a late lunch, we were assigned Room 6 which is just opposite the doors into the rooms. A lovely room, fresh and airy, nice big shower, and sparkling clean. We dropped our bags and went back into the pub for lunch - chicken in mushroom sauce for me and chilli for the hubby. Delicious. We were well looked after by Joanne, Kenny and young Archie and enjoyed a few gins sitting in the gorgeous little garden. We fancied a walk but the weather was changeable, so Kenny recommended we do a hop over the road down to the river under the bridge, so we went down and skimmed stones and then walked back up to watch the rabbits frolicking about in the field opposite. Then we played pool in the bar and listened to the jukebox. A perfect lazy afternoon! We had dinner in the restaurant, again, well looked after, nothing was a problem. Garlic mushrooms and carrot and coriander soup to start, then steaks for main course. Kenny recommended the Bavette steak, which was mouth-watering. Their French chef is very very good! Then we shared a sticky toffee pudding for dessert. Our room was great, comfortable bed, white fluffy towels, powerful hot shower, everything you expect. Apart from the odd noises of people coming in and out of the main door, it was super silent, with the only sound of the birds and the river. Blissful. Had a good night's sleep and great breakfast. Will definitely be back.
