Issues due to convention and green policy

I have liked the Westin experience in the past. I had a wedding to attend in Austin and when looking at my options, chose a Westin over an Airbnb or other hotel for the heavenly bed and service experience. When I checked in and was informed I would not receive housekeeping for my 3 night stay due to a green program the Starwood Group has in place, my displeasure was immediate. Luckily I was told I could opt out, but I would miss out on some nonsensical points. The clerk attempted to persuade me by going on and on about energy savings, at which point I said, I promise not to wash my sheets at home, but I want my bed made and my room cleaned daily. The clerk was very nice and I have no complaints about her service, as she was doing exactly as she was told. I have an issue with this policy and the forced opting in. Read a few other reviews and I am sure you will find a lack of housekeeping is mentioned. Based on this experience and the response I received on twitter from the Starwood social media rep, I am done with Westin/ Starwood group. My other issue with this hotel, another thing that I am not sure they can control, but as I was looking for a retreat, I would have appreciated a heads up that a very rowdy convention was taking place that weekend. My one chance to use the pool was on Sat. Morning and one woman was attempting to save every chair in the pool area for her group. I later heard her say there were 200 people coming to the pool. I stayed at the Westin for one night on business and I was very pleased. Beautiful hotel, spotless rooms, and very friendly staff. A lot of restaurants and bars and shopping nearby...the Domain is a beautiful complex. I would definitely stay again and recommend to anyone.

Amazing hotel in the Domain! Nowhere better!

Absolute excellent service, superb! Big, spacious rooms, dreamy bed covered in 2 down comforters and down pillows, like sleeping on a cloud! Surrounded by shops, excellent restaurants yet very quiet. Couldn't recommend it more! Waited on hand and foot!

Great stay! Hotel was in a wonderful area. Free parking, which is always a plus. Everything within walking distance as far as entertainment. Had a preset time and would definitely stay at this hotel again.

Not good transportation service to shops ... Need more golf carts!!! I was dropped off but no one could come back and pick up bc golf cart was charging had already tipped the driver $20 >>> too far to walk!!! won't stay there again!
