We had a room with a leaking ceiling and the staff was very gracious to move us to a suite the next day and refund that night. My only complaint is this room was described to us as the “problem” room and they should not put anyone in it. The ceiling was atrocious

Great place to stay!
The only reason I gave 4 out of 5 for comfort is that the bathroom door offers zero privacy. There’s about a 2” gap between the wall and the door due to the sliding mechanism and there is no lock or latch. When traveling with curious toddlers this can be quite frustrating. I also wish the pool had been heated but this is so minor, my kids still loved it. Overall this is a great hotel and we will book here again next time we visit Valpo. I love the quiet location and the large grassy areas for dogs to potty. Also- the breakfast was incredible! The staff is so helpful and friendly.

The main entry is being renovated (as of July 2023), so guests must walk to a side door, then down a long hall to reach to lobby and elevator. I believe the hotel should have posted a notice to this effect on Expedia to alert potential guests before they book. For guests who have difficulty walking, it doubles or triples the distance to walk, which we noted was difficult for some of the older guests who limp or use canes. Everything inside was top quality. Great staff, very clean.

We do have it listed on the Expedia page, the Hilton website, and the Hilton app about our ongoing renovations. I do apologize this was missed during booking. We try to be as accommodating as we can while we work quickly to get through this. Should you ever need help entering or exiting the building a staff member is always willing to help. In addition, we have parking just outside of our south entrance that can used as well for a shorter walk. I do hope you will give us another chance in the future.

Night clerk was rude. Scaffolding surrounded the entire perimeter and the front entrance was closed. Couldn’t find a way in for about 15 minutes. The room was small and the ac was noisy. The beds were squeaky and very springy and uncomfortable. The sliding door to the bathroom was cheap and hollow. Everything in the room was cheap. Overall the room was bad.

The room that we rented the toilet was not fastened down all the way. It moved and made a lot of noise when you sat on it or went to get up so you might want to check that. Otherwise stay was fine. The pool was very nice. The breakfast was not bad. The staff was very friendly. The room was clean.

We made our reservation the night before for our road-trip and arrived at 10:30 at night. Had no clue the hotel would be under heavy construction with the entrance completely blocked by fencing and scaffolding. Most of the hotel was dark and looked like it was not in operation. But driving around the unlit parking lot we finally saw a very small sign saying the entrance was on the north side of the building. We drove around the entire building and could not find a lit area where there might be a door. I think it may have been at the end of a long darkened path that none of us wanted to try to walk. Being women and unfamiliar with the area and not knowing how safe it was, we decided to move on to another hotel. We assumed that either Expedia or the hotel would refund us the money especially since I had paid for trip protection. But after several phone calls to Expedia who said the hotel had to refund us, and my own calls to the hotel, we have no refund—even partial. Expedia said they tried to reach the manager and got no answer but told us to rest assured I would hear from them. Here we are a week later, and I have heard nothing! The hotel has refused to issue a refund because we didn’t cancel 48 hours before the night stay. They don’t take any responsibility for the poorly lit hotel and parking lot that three older ladies were afraid to try to maneuver themselves. Do not waste your time with this hotel or Expedia!

We do have it noted on Expedia, the Hilton website, and the Hilton app of our ongoing renovations. We do our best to be as accommodating as possible while we work through these much-needed renovations; but if you choose to cancel outside of the cancellation period we do have to still charge as we held the room for you. Our parking lot is well lit - it sounds like you may have been in the vacant lot behind our building. In the future, please call the front desk staff for assistance. We do hope you will give us another chance on your next visit to Valparaiso.

When we arrived, we could not find the entrance because hotel was under major renovation. Signage was poor. When we called the hotel number to ask about the entrance no one answered the phone, so we parked in an area next to construction site and walked around building - found an open door (which was signed as locked but was not) and entered hotel at south end. The sign at main closed entry said to use north end but as we found out later that entrance was hidden by scaffolding. There was no one at desk - sign said receptionist would return momentarily but (she) did not. I returned to outside parked car, conferred with my wife and then we returned into the building via south door and noticed Hotel person in north hallway. We had some conversation and found out we still had a room. Made a difficult decision to stay and use the room. We were given a room for handicapped person rather than a regular room. My wife did not like the shower facility being unsure if the bathroom would flood given the low floor entry. The smell of the hallway and room was that of a chemical cleaner or adhesive. The gym was unavailable. Breakfast, however, was quickly served and had a good choice of food - met our expectation. Room condition was acceptable except for shower and smell. Sound proofing was poor. Overall, this hotel was way below value of a typical Hampton Inn. Our nightly charge did not match reality and I will ask Expedia for a discount. There was no mention of the construction.

The exterior is being maintained so the main entrance is out of commission but otherwise the building was in good shape and clean. It was quiet. The neighborhood had a bunch of places to eat and gas close; however none of this is particularly walkable. The infrastructure isn’t there so it’s not a pedestrian friendly neighborhood but otherwise the hotel has great.

DO NOT STAY HERE. This building is under MAJOR renovation and they don’t tell you at all when you book, or even to the extent of how bad it is when you check in. We walked into our overpriced $300 a night room and heard loud banging. There was literally men outside our windows on scaffolding cussing loudly in Spanish (all of my kids speak the language and knew exactly what they were saying). There’s a paper on the desk that pretty much says “close your curtains and deal with it”. We called front desk and they flat out refused to give us a refund and said “You’re welcome to check out but you already paid and you’re not getting your money back.” !!! So I called Expedia and they said the only way they could give us a refund is if the manager allowed it. They called the manager on our behalf and again, they refused. I was so mad, we left so I could cool down. We went to the dunes, come back and open the door to our room and it smelled like weird burning paint or spray paint it was awful. Our windows were covered in plastic on the outside. I called front desk and said “I know you won’t give us a refund can you at least put us in a room so we can breathe?” This woman says “ma’am, there’s no spray paint they are doing something else. You’re wrong.” I was so confused I’m like “How am I WRONG come to my room and smell it!” Silence, then she says “No. It doesn’t matter I don’t have any more of your room type.” And she hung up on me! I’m just so absolutely stunned!

Place was under construction and for $100 bucks you can go fed ex enlarge, print and laminate signage so people can see from streets where to park and enter instead of little signs you can’t read on some doors.

Nice hotel
The only negative was that they are rebuilding the front of the building, so it is less convenient to enter the building, especially with luggage. The staff was wonderful and the breakfast was above average.

The property was clean and quiet as always. Even though they were renovating, they made it seamless for guests. Patrick is such an asset! He’s always upbeat, helpful, funny!

Getting a facelift
Hotel is currently being updated so lobby was closed. The room was recently completed and was nice but still had construction dust on floors and corners. Pool was very nice. I’m sure once completed it will be very nice

The room was nice and staff was exceptionally kind, but in a newly remodeled room was surprised the bathroom door in our suite was much narrower than the door frame so unable to latch door- 3 of us so privacy a must - can’t believe workers left it like that and that no other guests reported (I did at checkout ). Also, again for 3 of us, we were left a partial roll and of toilet paper and no extra rolls. The renovations on 1st floor were a surprise too. No mention of this when booking room. However, overall a nice, clean room w/helpful, friendly staff. Just a few things they should address
