Faded style over substance

Posted May 1, 2017
We booked into the Mour in search of a bit of glamour as we had managed to secure a babysitter for both nights. We were concerned about the location and indeed it was quite remote but in a smart office estate. We arrived quite late around 2300 and found that there was one staff member on covering the reception and the bar. Welcome wasn't great but to be fair the guy on reception was having to deal with a drunk idiot. Check in was fine. Room was quite smart and clean but bed was small, hard and not comfortable. Bathroom was OK but not many towels. We had a couple of drinks in the bar which were expensive. Bar is a little tired and dated, lacks atmosphere. Parquet floor is knackered so even men in trainers sound like they are in high heels. We headed to bed and discovered two things, the room walls were very thin and that there was a very vocal nymphomaniac in the adjoining room. She had a good night. We did not. We advised the reception of our problem in the morning and they dealt with it well, moving us and apologising. Not their fault. Breakfast was very average. Cooked food was bland and quite cold on the second morning. Not great for vegetarians either. Drinks on the second night was not good. Bar staff were disinterested and provided two g and ts with a slither of ice and poorly presented for £13. A pint of lager followed which was short of the 568ml by some way and I later discovered bits floating in it. Overall, very disappointing and we won't be back.

Overall I have a nice stay. Although upon checkout I wasn't asked if I had enjoyed my stay or if there were any problems.

Mis-Sold. 1 Star pretending to be 4 star.

Pros: Nothing. The television didn't even have all the channels, it is really a 1 star hotel charging 4 star prices.
Cons: I would like my complaint to be treated fairly and properly, so far nothing.
Location: Nothing at all. Its remote.
The hotel has a nice lobby and entrance, the staff in the day time were polite and helpful. The rooms however are awful, they are dark and very dingy, there is no natural light in them at all and are very depressing. Carpets threadbare, and the bathrooms are more than basic, only a soap dispenser of very cheap soap. The Hotel advertises itself as perfect for business, far from the truth, I had an article I needed to write over the weekend I was there, the poor light made it impossible to write, and the halogen lights in the room were inadequate. I tried to cancel my second night at the hotel but was unable to because of the hotels policy, I would have lost most of my fee. In the end I had to to go out of the hotel for the day to work elsewhere. I used a local taxi, the hotel is very remote from any shops, banks ect and much further than I thought hence I was £5 short. The taxi company didn't have a card machine, and the hotel had no facilities to get cash out. The person on reception looked blankly and told me there was nothing they could do. He suggested I get back in the taxi and go to the nearest bank that would cost me another £20 in order to get £5 out. It was a farce, a very kind couple that were checking in gave me the £5. I ordered a very basic ham sandwich from the bar, VERY BASIC, it was £8. I have made a complaint to the management and their response has been very poor. The next step is a formal complaint to the company. Very very poor.
