This is my first review here but decided it was worth a few minutes of my time. We just got back from a great anniversary getaway at the Riu Palace and had a great time there. While the facilities and the price were really good, it was the awesome service by the staff who made this an excellent trip for us. They were friendly, helpful, courteous and yet gave us space to just be there to enjoy ourselves.
Here are a few things I would tell my friends if they were going to this resort:
- It was great during a "non-family" week, when most kids are in school. Plenty of beach & pool seating, and a bit quieter.
- Take a bunch of $1 bills for tipping; we were happy to tip for such great service, and the couple extra dollars is really helpful to them.
- Do some research and decide what tours you'd like to take before you come. They all sound great when you read a brochure; reviews can be more helpful. We did a Los Arcos snorkeling and beach BBQ catamaran excursion which was great. Just enough snorkeling, relaxing time on the smaller boat, and a great late lunch.
- Manage your expectations. This was not a 5-star resort but it felt like it was to us. If you're looking for the best of the best, keep looking, but the staff at this beautiful place made it comfortable, special, and fun for us. This isn't a negative comment; just a perspective.
- The taxi service at the airport was great; cheaper than a shuttle and just as good. (Airport ATMs in the hallway were fine, too.)

This place was great. The hotel staff were excellent and always very friendly. The kids loved the water slides and boogie boards. The only thing I would stay away from is the time share presentation, it took way longer than quoted and we found better deals on a day cruise, a razor tour and dolphins swim in town. Still a very excellent trip and all iclusive package was well worth it.

The location of the hotel is great! Right on the beach you can easily go from the ocean into the pool with just a few steps. Beautiful pool area and resort. The only thing was that you can tell that the don't do well with maintenance. Like if something was broken it was never fixed ex. Jacuzzis. Also for the price we expected at least a clean room. The room lacked cleanness. The coffee cups where dirty not washed.. Also the curtains of the room where white and they had either a chocolate or a blood stain on them. It was pretty gross. Other than that we had a good time. Also there is no store walking distance from the hotel. It's pretty secluded from all touristic areas.

This was a very nice hotel. Beautiful rooms. Great poolside. I did not like the food at all. I felt like they were very understaffed. If you want to order food it will take at least 45 minutes to an hour until they bought the food. We had an issue with housekeeping one time in which they forgot to clean the bathrooms.

Very nice family hotel. The hotel staff was great! Food was great even though they didn't have many restaurants. The hotel is quite far from downtown so if you want to stay on a central area this is not the place for you. Great place to relax (except for all the children)?but overall a great experience.
