The hallway rugs are in terrible shape and the room had many cockroaches in it. The room was a single bedroom suite so it was larger which was nice. it had a single bed and double in the room and a pull out couch. It would be nice to have more rooms with two doubles or if the sleeper couch had a higher quality mattress. The price was not too bad at $179.48 /night. The location was a bit of a walking distance to the central part of Waikiki but not too bad but we did feel safe there.

The hotel in general is very dated and so was the rooms. There was carpets in the room and living room and not the newest ones either. The furniture was also very dated. The best part about this hotel is how nice the staff are and how close it is to everything.

This property is extremely dated. 1. The worst part about this property was the elevators. Lines reached all the way to the entrance of the hotel. (Got stuck in the elevator twice.) 2. The room was very dated. From the televisions, bathrooms, to the decor. Felt like we were staying in my Grandparents condo from the 80's. 3. Parking was a nightmare due to construction with no signs anywhere to go. 4. Resort fee is kind of a joke. Definitely not a resort. A pool with towels, DVD rentals, and some museum. 5. Very sketchy at night. While security sat at there desk area in the lobby my wife and I were constantly herassed by homeless people right outside of the hotel. 6. We were informed prior to our trip there would be construction. Oh man is there. Again, a parking nightmare. No water or AC our last night. They should really offer a re-do for anyone that wasted their hard earned money during the time of our stay once this property is a comparison to surrounding hotels and condos. Honestly, The list goes on and on. I will say the staff was super friendly and helpful! Not their fault this properly is falling apart.

The rooms were spacious for visitors. Bedrooms small, but enough to serve its purpose. I like the daily newspaper & DVD rentals. Balcony and view of Diamond Head was great. A/C worked well. Nice kitchen although the utensils & cookware are on the cheaper quality side. I asked for a baking sheet, and someone brought me bedsheets. When I told them of the mistake, no one ever came back with the right thing. I couldn't access the gym with my room key. Never ended up going to the front desk for it.

When booking this hotel we were not advised until 2 weeks later that there would be disruptions due to plumbing and electrical issues. While there one day we were advised that next day elevator service by Otis would be done & there could be disruptions. Of the 4 elevators one was down the entire time even after the servicing. One elevator was not operational a few days due to residents moving. That left 2 elevators that were functional for guests and also used as service elevators. Therefore we had to wait quite awhile in order to be able to get on the elevator. Also, maid service was only provided every 3-4 days & only if you were in the unit if they came. Prior to booking these should have been addressed and noted, so that you could make an informed decision. Most likely will not stay at the Waikiki Sunset again.

We arrived very late and had specifically requested 2 cribs for our babies when we arrived. When we arrived at midnight the cribs were not in the room and the frontdesk person said they had no note about the cribs (which i had text confirmation). We were able to get them to finally find one crib the night we arrived we arrived and had to wait the next day for the next crib. That was the start of the trouble. The water was turned off for the whole building from 9 am- 5 pm 2 days later, which expedia did not inform us at booking. We had to be out the whole day. When we arrived back we had to run the water for 20 mins to get the brown sludge water out of the lines. I couldnt bathe my kids. Trying to do children's laundry, the laundry machine was broken on our floor and the fromt desk simply said "check the other floors machines" rather than send somebody. The lady who runs the mart on the 5th floor is extremely rude. The parkade was under construction and the elevators took forever to get to our room. The room was just ok, basic at best. This is not a 4 star. More like a 2 star. Be aware of this before booking. In hindsight i should have just spent a little more per night and stayed at a much nicer hotel 2 blocks away. Won't be staying here again. Felt like a residential building after thought that was converted to a "apartmenthotel".

Great ocean view rooms with lanai, awesome pool and family bbq area with diamond head view 6th floor, small store on 5th floor. Only con was the very slow elevator system, one was out of service for the whole stay.

This is an older property, but it is very well kept and is great for families with lots of amenities. there is a small shop in the hotel, the pool is nice, and there is a large BBQ are with tables, grills, and all the necessary equipment. 2 blocks from Waikiki, very walkable.

Don't stay in this hotel!! The building is old and it smells bad. In our one week stay, they had to shut down water for one whole day, their pool was not working too.. i and my husband got stuck in elevator for more than 40 mins. DO NOT STAY HERE!

First the good: low cost, you can walk to the beach and restaurants, kitchen and coffee maker provided, the staff is nice. The bad: the hotel is run down and stained, people live in the hotel and they are always cooking so there is always a food smell in the halls. The elevators are constantly full, making you wait 10 to 20 mins. We were given a wheelchair accessible room next to the trash chute. I've seen on other websites that hotels give the undesirable rooms to Expedia members. The room was loud and smelly next to the trash. We also found a crackpipe in the cupboard so there's that. There are many nicer hotels nearby for the same price.

Elevators had constant issues & crowding, sometimes causing a 15 minute wait to get up/down. Housekeeping was only every 3 days but didn't even come that often. Parking attendants were rude and regularly tried to over-charge. Hotel charged us an additional $30 / day when we arrived despite having paid the advertised rate in advance.
