Good location, great lobby, okay rooms

Posted Apr 25, 2017
The Moana Surfrider has a beautiful facade and lobby area. The patio area under a sprawling Banyan tree is lovely too. The pool is very small. The beach directly in front of the hotel is okay but is rocky in the water. The first room we had was depressingly small and it smelled. The rep at the check in counter moved us to a wonderful room after that for 29.00 more we overlooked the courtyard and ocean. My biggest issue was the price of valet...$$$ for any amount of time so we parked at Kings Alley for a $ flat fee and just 1 block away. A $$ daily fee for wi-fi, excercise room, and general stuff whether you need it or not. No microwave in room. Beds were surprisingly uncomfortable. Room service was pretty pricey. For the price of the room I would stay at the Outrigger next door or the Kahala Hotel even though the beach isn't very nice.

Great Location

Posted Apr 24, 2017
Pros: Location & fantastic restaurant and Bar
Cons: I'm happy with everything about this Hotel
Location: It's central to Shops & Restaurants the beach is right on the door step. Transport directly outside & easy flat walking around Waikiki
We love Moana Surfrider we stay here every year, the location is excellent right in the middle of Waikiki Shops & Restaurants. Our favourite bar right on the beach with relaxing Hawaiian music along with beautiful Hawaiian Dancing we enjoy this before heading off to one of the amazing Restaurants on offer. Staff very helpful & friendly always happy. Rooms tight with 2 adults and 2 teenagers but fine for us. Excellent Hotel we keep going back.

At he heart of Waikiki

Posted Apr 20, 2017
Great location as it's close to great shopping and dinning. Also the property has direct beach access so makes things easy to lug your beach gear. Only issue for us is that the sound proofing was lacking in the banyan wing (historical wing). This is some what ecpected given that it is a historical hotel and renovations cannot modify too much of the original building

Hotel directly on the beach.

Posted Apr 16, 2017
The first lady of waikiki. Super hotel. Only minus is that parking is 35 dollars a night and if you wand a daybed on the beach it costs 55usd plus tip extra

Paradise smells like white tea

Posted Apr 8, 2017
I love the old refurbished hotel mixed with the new comfort. The hotel smells amazing. I was told it's their white tea aroma. Location on the beach is great. 2 of 3 evenings we ate at beach bar and had our favorite pupu steaks. Staff was always so nice and helpful. Pool could be open longer though. Maybe have an adult hours only.

Hotel close to beach and stores

Posted Apr 8, 2017
The hotel is very close on distance to many shops and steps away from the beach. However, the hotel is a little run down. Carpet leading to rooms is old and outdated, beds are not as comfortable as the sink in on the middle. Overall is not a bad place to stay but a bit pricey for what you get.

Charming historic hotel in perfect position

Posted Apr 6, 2017
Loved the surfrider, mostly for the position and history. Tower room with magnificent view though decor very tired. Live music each evening and afternoon, but not once during our 10 day stay was it Hawaiian, why not??????? Tried to get into the restaurant one night and were dismissed with a very curt, 'at least an hours wait' no encouragement to put our names on list. Ate in the bar area, pleasant and ok food. Bought coffee from little pool cafe, undrinkable. Had a lomi lomi massage in spa, absolutely incredible, but also very expensive. Big event at hotel with opening of film festival, very poorly managed with security not knowing what they were doing, crowds of non guests on verandah, hard for real guests to go thru, would have been so easy tohave a security person at each end and guests showing their room passes to limit it to guests and manage the congestion.
