The Byodo-In Temple is a non-denominational temple located on the island of O'ahu in Hawai'i at the Valley of the Temples. It was dedicated in August 1968 to commemorate the 100-year anniversary of the first Japanese immigrants to Hawaii. It is revered for its distinctive shape, and the tone of the bell sounds a message of deep calm and peace, cleansing the mind of evil and temptation.
The resonant sound of the bon-sho creates an atmosphere of tranquility for meditation that travels for some distance. A soft wooden log called the “shu-moku” is used to strike the bell.
The bell is customarily rung before one enters the temple to spread the eternal teachings of Buddha. Ringing the bell will purify the mind of evil spirits and temptation. It is said that ringing this bell will bring you happiness, blessings, and a long life. It is customarily rung before entering the temple. Sacred Coy at the Byodo In Temple
Hundreds of Koi Fish & a black swan that live in the ponds of the Temple. Wonderful atmosphere at the Byodo-In Temple.
We've been there in May and we were basically the only tourists. Definitely worth going! The Beautiful replica of a Japanese Temple! Love this place A Japanese temple in Oahu...very peaceful.. Temple in the clouds Quite a dainty place. Mesmerizing and peaceful place to spend your day while in Hawaii.
#AquaTrove A fishpond is an important feature in the ahupuaa or land division of ancient Hawaiians. This particular one was in a bad shape until recently it was restored by many volunteers from Kamehameha Schools and friends of the fishpond. This was also a filming location for the sequel to Jurassic World. Beautiful Japanese temples on the east shore of Oahu, where some of the nicest views and best beaches (if you're more into swimming than surfing) on the island are. #lifeatexpedia Temple details Beautiful replica of an ancient Japanese Buddhist temple hidden in the mountains of Oahu! #stunningstructures The Byodo-In Temple north of Honolulu is a recreated ancient Japanese landmark. It is in a much nicer location and as part of its relatively younger age .. it is in flawless condition.
The Original is in Kyoto Japan and is one thousand years old. Beautiful temple, in Hawaii. Very peaceful! A stroll to the Byodo-in Temple on Oahu. You take off your shoes to enter the temple and you can light some incense in front of the statue. The artwork is so detailed and beautiful. Such surreal scenery at this Temple. Nice waterfall Such an amazing place to see and experience Lovely view even with the pond drained. The Byodo-In Temple. Costs a few bucks to walk around. Place of such peace hidden in the valley on the island of Oahu. The Byodo-in Temple Little snorkel spot on the windward side. 🐠#lifeatexpedia Found beautiful temple which is replica of The Byodo-in temple located on the island of Oahu in Hawaii at the valley of temples. Pretty cool little hike to get to this treasure The bridge going to the temple. The Amida Buddha
The figure itself is more than nine feet tall. It was initially carved out of wood, and then covered with a cloth. Three applications of gold lacquer were placed on the cloth, and then gold leaf was applied on top of those layers. The gold backdrop behind the Amida Buddha features 52 Boddhisattvas playing musical instruments, dancing, and floating on clouds. This was such a treat, what a beautiful temple. With so much to look at. Definitely plan on visiting again. Hawaii Hawaii 🌸

The moon loves you to the moon and back. This was taken on my iPhone on the back of a porch after a wild night dwindled down to sleep. Crazy how a simple photo can bring you back in time. Look at the bay Zen. #lifeatexpedia Nestled deep within Waihee valley are numerous falls, one of which is called Waihee. Its source is a spring from deep inside the Koolau. For the more adventurous, climb up to the upper falls with a nice swimming pool.
#takeahike Towards the end of the trail, there are two transmission towers that grace the hills overlooking the H3 Highway and the Valley of the Temples below. Most of the time the view is shrouded by mists but if you time it right the views are magnificent.
#takeahike When visiting Hawaii, this tranquil Buddhist temple was such a surprise to discover. Beautiful setting, tame birds, lotus flowers and koi fish are just some of the glories of this place... Have you found any hidden gems when travelling? Pretty stream at the Temple.
