Party central

My experience was fine, but that was the luck of the draw. Friends on other floors were frequently disturbed by parties during all hours. Relocating in the middle of the night?

Party, party, party....

Pros: The room size and layout, the friendly staff and the gym (even though it was on the small side).
Cons: Policing of parties.
Location: Downtown Oakland, within walking distance of some very nice restaurants, Alameda Island and Jack London Square. Access to Berkeley and San Francisco.
Everything about the hotel seemed to broadcast 'oasis' in the midst of a gritty downtown. It had large, comfortable rooms, a bistro breakfast place, and friendly staff to greet you. And the first night was great - having arrived at 1:30 a.m. from a long flight, I slept comfortably. And then came Saturday night...after a dinner out, I arrived back at the hotel at 11:15 and went to sleep shortly thereafter. At 1:15, I was awakened by loud rap music coming from the room next door, and extensive cigarette and marijuana smoke coming into my room from people smoking in the hall. I put a wet towel to block the space underneath the door, opened my window and inserted ear plugs. However, the party just seemed to get louder, so I called the desk and asked to change rooms. The man at the desk said it would be about 15 minutes before security to get to my room, so I packed my stuff while waiting. Security then escorted me to another room on another floor, passing two other room parties on the way! The new floor also smelled of cigarette and marijuana smoke, so I put a wet towel uinder the door of the new room, opened my window and finally fell asleep at 3:30 a.m.

Close to 12TH Street BART Station

Easy to locate, and just a 2-minute walk to the BART station. Check-in was a breeze, and was in my room within a minute or two. Bed was comfortable, and lots of furniture on which to sit. Bathroom was functional, with Paul Mitchell amenities as your toiletry supplier. Chinatown is only a block away, with many different restaurants close by. This was my 3rd stay, and will stay here again.

Great place, but lied about free parking

Pros: Comfort, cleanliness
Cons: Don't say anything about free parking. Just tell the truth that there's a $30 valet or street parking beginning Sundays.
Location: Downtown has a lot to do, and it's right next to Chinatown.
Only chose this hotel because on Expedia, the hotel advertised there was free hotel parking and we had expensive equipment. The free parking is utter BS. Told us when we got there that the 'free parking' was street parking starting on Sundays, and it was 'easy to find'. We spent 30 minutes circling one-way streets and found nothing. On a Saturday, there was NO street parking with a 2 block radius, and Oakland is NOT the safest place to walk long distances from parking your car far away. A lot of people just get tricked into their Valet Parking for $30 dollars just like this. Fortunately there was a garage nearby with a $22 rate, but it felt very unsafe, and we had to carry heavy equipment and all our suitcases down 2 blocks at night. Other than that, the hotel itself is pretty nice. Either BART/Uber there or expect to have to pay $20-30 for parking if you stay on a weekend. Bottom line: Marriot, if you don't actually have free parking, DO NOT ADVERTISE IT. Very upset and felt very cheated.

Business Trip

Pros: It was clean and bed/pillows were comfortable.
Cons: Same as experience above.
Location: This was my first visit to Oakland, the neighborhood didn't look that great, but again, it's my first visit.
I just had two issues with the hotel. One was the air conditioning wasn't working right. The second, for a Marriott I would have thought there would have been a better menu. It was very limited not many choices to order from.
