The decline is obvious

Since 2009 we have been staying at The Durant. At first it was fun and quirky. The lobby was terrific and really captured the essence of Berkeley. The rooms? Well, it is old and some of the reno was all right. Then, they sold it and the new owners have not a clue. This weekend (Dec 17, 2016) we stayed. They should have simply closed the hotel and completed the reno without guests. You are greeted by a massive wall closing off the lobby and register check in. It is not evident what is going on. You have to exit the hotel and go to a small make shift room to check in. The man, Rickey, was pleasant but that does not make up for the place. Breakfast was included. Yikes. Terrible. There was no hot water. None! That was the last time we will stay there. Customers--Beware.
