Perfect location

Posted Feb 13, 2017
Tough to review as the hotel is under construction so there were no amenities to use and the They are using a temporary front desk space. The staff were super nice, room was very small but clean. Some of the rooms have already been remodeled, as was mine, but think they might need to some finishing touches. There were a a tangle of wires off the TV going down the wall, just not that pretty. Will try again when it is all complete.

In the midst of major remodel/renovation

Posted Feb 2, 2017
Pros: Location close to UC campus
Cons: Update room, change the carpeting and wallcovering, complete the renovation, and inform customers of the state of the hotel.
Location: UC Berkeley and Telegraph all within walking distance
The hotel is in the midst of renovation and amenities are limited. There is no lobby and the restaurant and bar are closed during renovation. Furniture and fixtures in the room were dated. Staff was friendly and helpful but this did not make up for the condition of the hotel and absence of amenities.

Noisy, small sink, and under construction. Too expensive for the size and accommodations.

The decline is obvious

Posted Dec 19, 2016
Pros: In 2009-2012: a lot. quirky. friendly. fun Last year and now (2016): NOTHING
Since 2009 we have been staying at The Durant. At first it was fun and quirky. The lobby was terrific and really captured the essence of Berkeley. The rooms? Well, it is old and some of the reno was all right. Then, they sold it and the new owners have not a clue. This weekend (Dec 17, 2016) we stayed. They should have simply closed the hotel and completed the reno without guests. You are greeted by a massive wall closing off the lobby and register check in. It is not evident what is going on. You have to exit the hotel and go to a small make shift room to check in. The man, Rickey, was pleasant but that does not make up for the place. Breakfast was included. Yikes. Terrible. There was no hot water. None! That was the last time we will stay there. Customers--Beware.

Cons: The hotel is under construction so while the staff was incredibly friendly and accommodating, there are areas of the hotel that are disheveled
Great location and staff but the building is currently being renovated
