Gritty! Will not be returning.
Very outdated hotel in the heart of the city. There are a couple good restaurants across the street that we enjoyed. Room had stains on carpet, the mattress was too hard even with the mattress topper we brought to use. I have a iPhone 14 and Apple laptop that the WiFi signal was too weak for to stream. Check in was chaotic and we arrived at 8pm. Bf was basic and employee overseeing that was pleasant. We paid for four nights in advance and we could not wait to check out. Went to the La Quinta in San Jose the following night and what a difference! Very clean, updated to at least the recent decade.

Rough on the inside, pleasant inside.
A young Block guy checked us in, I didn't catch his name, however every hotel front desk should be staffed by someone like him. The Building is kinda rough looking on the outside, yet the rooms were clean & nice for the price. Lots of pillows on the bed for watching TV. Give the Thai food across the street a pass, yuk.

This hotel is a great option if you are in Berkeley for a few days. The complimentary breakfast is very good!

The property itself was clean; the staff is welcoming and friendly. Overall, it is located in downtown Berkeley. This is a great option, especially for parents visiting children attending UC Berkeley. It is close to campus and reasonably-priced. But, keep in mind that this is a property that was probably purchased by Hilton and turned into a La Quinta Inn, and the facility reflects that.

We did have a pilot light go out that morning and were able to relight it and have hot water redistributed to the hotel within 45 minutes of it being reported to the desk. A really nice property
It is a solid 4 star property. Check in was easy. Staff are friendly and accommodating. Breakfast is good and they have two waffle machines. Take a room on the top floor and you won't hear people dancing on the ceiling. Parking and an elevator.

Worst Night Ever
I arrived late on a Sat. night, asked for a quiet room. Was given a room facing the parking area & front main st. There was a lot of traffic noise and loud motorcycles. About 7:00 AM I wok up to the beeping trash pick up truck just below my 3rd floor window, very loud banging of picking up the trash bins. I know they were not full up and could have given me a room on the back side where it would have been much more quiet. Breakfast included in the rate was from 6 to 9 AM. I arrived at the breakfast room at 8:45, went to the bread/ toaster area there was only white bread, then I got some scrambled eggs and the last 2 sausages links. I looked into the service room saw a young woman sitting and texting on her phone, asked her if she could put out some more eggs and sausage as there were other people in line behind me. She said it was 5 minutes before closing and they were out of everything and would not, could not put out anything more. I walked to the front desk and asked the person there if they could put out some more food, that several people were waiting and got no breakfast ! His reply was the same with an attitude that my complaint was falling on deaf ears. This was the worst experience I have ever had at a La Quinta Hotel over many years as a La Quinta member. I will not stay in a La Quinta Hotel again, unless they contact me and give me a credit for a free nights stay.

We do apologize if you did not get your preferred room, it was late on a busy weekend night, and I did verify that all of the rooms on the backside were occupied and are many times requested early. I am happy that you were able to get some of the complimentary breakfast, we work very hard to keep an actual breakfast available for our guests as many hotels have gone away from it or reduced theirs to a minimum. We had to wait for someone to come back when arrival. When he returned he gave us a smoking room which gave us a headach for the rest of the day.

Price was excellent and I realized more than enough value to justify the cost. Breakfast was good. Despite being old and soon in need of a renovation, the facilities were clean, and so I felt comfortable during my stay. I would choose again.
