First room was crappy. Then they switched us to an okay room which wasnt as bad but you can feel the springs in the mattress. Great location. Safe neighborhood. Super close to beach.

Failed at being OK

Posted Dec 27, 2016 on Hotels
I wanted this hotel to be ok, but it just wasn't. When I arrived, the tile floor in the bathroom and sink area was so sticky that my shoes made squelching sounds. I wiped it down with a towel and some hand soap, and the towel turned grey. Speaking of towels, you won't get any bath towels here. In the bath towel spot, there are some larger hand towels (maybe a foot and a half wide by two and a half feet long?) And they're thin, scratchy towels, too. The tub itself was dirty, with smudges all over and a ring of pink mold around the drain. I wished I'd brought flip flops with me to shower in; the bottom felt gross on my feet. But the worst problem was the awful chemical smell in my room. I am not particularly sensitive to smells, but whatever this was made my nose and eyes burn a bit in addition to smelling TERRIBLE. I called the front desk and they told me that the smell was not out of the ordinary. I slept with the window open even though it was cold. When I checked out, I told the owner (who was staffing the desk) about the sticky floor. He replied "sometimes they do a chemical thing". I said, "maybe that explains the awful smell." He shrugged. With more (or any) attention to cleaning it would be a great place. The rooms are spacious and the bed, though older, was comfortable. But unless they start cleaning the rooms - and with less horrible smelling cleansers - I would never stay here again. There are better options around. Pick one of them.

Thank you for letting our staff know of the conditions of that room. It really helps us to adress the problem and fix any issues. We are under new ownership and working on any issues there may be to adress. Thank you and we do hope you will come again.

Thank you for staying with us. I apologize for the leaf blowing. However it is not an employee of ours. He actually works at store next door and we have since talked to him. Sorry for the inconvenience.

The Rooms were clean. Beds a little uncomfortable. Great place if you are Riding the Dunes.

You get what you pay for! But would stay again...

Room was a good value. Easily better than a Motel 6 or something of that level. But that being said, it wasn't better by much. Still very much had that "motel" feel - stiff towels maybe like 90% clean (some stains), floor very slightly sticky, room didn't smell bad per se, but didn't smell exactly clean either. The free wifi didn't work well when it was working at all. There was a mini fridge and a microwave to use, which was nice and helpful. Overall, i've stayed in worse for sure, but this was sufficient in a pinch. The location is fine. Looks kinda deserted at night. Campground across the street and liquor store next door, so you will get a few of "those types" wandering around. Not far at all from Pismo or Grover Beach and much safer looking in the daytime. Obviously the location is super convenient and key - the only real reason you'd choose to stay here. Overall, i would probably stay here again for the value or in a pinch. Pet friendly was helpful, but they charge $20 extra. No big deal, but worth noting.

Stay far far away!!! Worst hotel in town!

Posted Oct 24, 2016 on Hotels
I wish I didn't even have to give one star!! Hands down the worst experience we've had with a hotel!! Rooms are dingy, floors are nasty (my 1 year olds legs were black from crawling on the floor within 10 minutes of check in- and so were our feet). The owner is a JERK... makes up policies and doesn't inform his staff. They advertise rooms with an attached kitchen, but the owner makes the employees take the kitchen away from you and lock it up after you've already rented and paid for it. (Didn't use the appliances or anything, I needed the closed off room for a quiet room so that my baby would be able to sleep... the owner refused to budge and we had to remove my sleeping baby and crib from the room immediately so the staff member could lock it back up) We had to pack up and get out in less than 30 minutes in order to not be charged for that day, when we deemed it unacceptable to have the kitchen rental taken away from us with no notice! They gave us nothing for the trouble, other than the staff member giving an embarrassed apology.. I would have expected some sort of compensation over the way we were treated and the false advertising! The price of the room was outrageous for what we received both in product and service. NEVER AGAIN! For the room with the attached kitchen, we paid over $300! We left there and went to stay at Pismo Lighthouse Suites and only paid about $60 more for an AMAZING EXPERIENCE, AMAZING 2bd/2bth SUITE, and 100x's better service!!!! Say NO to Oceano Inn
