Beautiful Hotel excellent location

Posted Jan 17, 2018
Staff left complimentary card, chocolates and tiny dram bottles of whiskey in our room as it was my partners birthday surprise trip... so thoughtful. All but one member of staff friendly helpful and extremely pleasant. Shame the female blonde receptionist let the place down no reason to be in the hospitality trade giving off such negative looks and vibes within an otherwise fabulous place.

Has the potential to be so much better!

Posted Jan 9, 2018
Pros: The comfy bed, location
Cons: Staff training to improve service
I booked this hotel to stay for a business trip as the location is great (right next to Waverley station), and on approach the building is very impressive. Internally, the building is a "grand dame" with beautiful pillars, staircases and impressive facades. Unfortunately, the building itself is let down by a very "relaxed" service level which started at reception. Checkin was fine, however when asked for a menu before booking a table for dinner, we were told we could get one on the third floor as they didn't have one and didn't want to go out of their way to get one for us. When we did look at the menu, we decided to eat outside as the menu wasn't particularly inspiring. Service at the bar was ok, but again could have been so much better including the availability of ingredients for some of the cocktails we were interested in. Generally service was average, despite the hotel being quiet, apart from a very good (and smiley) young man at breakfast, sorry didn't catch his name. Overall, the hotel facilities and rooms were tired and looked like it needed a refresh. On a positive note, the bedrooms were warm, the bed was comfortable and the toiletries (white company) were great. In summary, the hotel has lots of potential and could be improved massively by a significant improvement in training staff to deliver a better service.

Posted Jan 7, 2018
Pros: Comfortable, location, great staff, very welcoming, welcome gifts perfect, love the list of pasdions
Cons: Larger elevator but it’s Europe - don’t expect large elevators
Location: Perfect location - on the same block as the Royal Mile and across the street from the Waverly Train Station

Location: Great location by all attractions.
There was urine on the toilet. Front desk forgot to request taxi. Very old but not quaint.

Luxury and faultless

The Scotsman was a perfect break. The suite was spacious and very well laidout. Having a large separate sitting area was fantastic. Everything about the suite spoke of luxury, and the hand confectionary was a very nice touch all washed down with a free bottle of preseco. 5 stars.

Pros: Comfort, position
Cons: The pool and spa were out of use !
Location: You are in the middle of it all, Castle close, the Royal mile is on the door step
This hotel is in a perfect position in the middle of the city between old and new city. Hotel is classic whit style and class, however no pool or spa but still shows on the hotels website.

Good location, classy old place

Location was great, service was a little... awkward? Not very talkative or welcoming. Friendly, just very quiet. Hotel was clean, room was clean, room was a little on the cramped side, but still very nice.
