Beautifullly presented modern beach home. Ideally suited for a couple or small family to get away from it all and either chill out or explore local attractions. Hokianga is steeped in history so you can learn all about New Zealand's very beginnings 800 years ago. And of course you must visit Opo's memorial and resting place - our most famous past resident. Conveniently located between the Copthorne Hotel and Resort and the Opononi Hotel. Cafes nearby in Waimamaku, Omapere, Opononi, Rawene, Kohukohu and a short drive to the Bay of Islands. Cape Reinga can be reached as a day trip. There are plenty of spectacular walks - walk South Head, visit Tane Mahuta in the Waipoua State Forest (20 minutes away), walk the beaches. Sand boarding is always a favourite just a short ferry trip to the giant sand dunes. Fishing is popular either from the wharves at Omapere or Opononi or if you're more adventurous, you can target the big game fish waiting outside the Heads. Great diving spots for that cray in the harbour or outside. Also visit Koutu Boulders a very short drive from Opononi - see boulders over 5 meters high. There is so much to see and do in the Hokianga you'll be wanting to come back again - after all Hokianga does mean "the returning place"! For something completely different visit Ngawha Springs and experience the thermal hot pools - about an hour away. Opononi is one of those places where it is just great to get some fish and chips, walk across the road to the beach and watch the sun set! And the fish and chips are very good! Extras: Linen (included); NOTE: Under Kiwi bach tradition you are expected to: Clean the house and do the dishes before you leave;

The property has clearly not been maintained nor has the level of previously attested cleanliness. Examples regarding maintenance include the damaged deck sliding door, holes in the bedroom walls, broken kitchen drawer handle (now fixed), broken bathroom sink plug (now fixed) to the blown light bulbs in the stove extractor fan and living room ceiling. This is the fourth bach we have stayed at on our trip so far and the other three were exemplary in both presentation and cleanliness. In terms of cleanliness we spent two hours on our arrival cleaning all the dirty surfaces in the kitchen and living rooms. - the bench tops, fridge, sand off the furniture, dried food off the dining room chairs and dirt off the placemats. We started hand washing the dishes, cutlery and utensils to remove the dried on food but gave up and put the whole lot through the dishwasher while scrubbing out the cutlery container and drawer to return the cleaned items. The inside of the refrigerator and freezer and all the cupboards were grubby with food debris. The bathroom and toilet mirrors were too dirty to see yourself in (now cleaned). The bedroom fan was full of dust balls. The BBQ was too dirty to use, the oven when turned on was so dirty that the entire living area was filled with the rancid smell of baked on food. On first use of the cast iron pans one was so dirty it 'smoked out' the living area. To add insult to injury the property instructions specified that it is the NZ tradition to leave a bach clean and requested us to do so! It was obvious that the state of this property in terms of grime and dirt were long standing and had not just been "left" by the previous tenants. At least the sheets and towels were clean even though the duvet was covered in dog hair! Given the above I am seeking a refund of the monies paid and an apology for the state of the property.
