Great outdoors area for walking or just sitting and enjoying the weather. The history of the house itself (A.P.Hill, Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackson slept in the house during the civil war) is amazing and the owner is a very friendly and warm lady.

Charm charm charm!
What a beautiful home. Both the interior and exterior are beautiful. This was by far one of the best B&B's my wife and I have stayed at. The host Casey was amazing. What a great cook and host. Could not have asked for a more relaxing and cozy place to spend our 27th wedding anniversary. We will be back!

Beautiful Mayhurst exudes 19th century charm in its remarkable history, gracious architecture, period decor and lovely grounds (the large Monet-esque lily pond in season is a true gem). Importantly, the innkeepers are fine folk who really care for their guests. Breakfast is delectable and barista-grade coffee is always at hand. Mayhurst is a unique property and experience. We'll be back!

Casey is a remarkable host, delivering with her family, a very high quality experience! No amenity was overlooked. The property is in excellent condition; the grounds and setting, interesting and historical; the breakfast scrumptious and memorable; and the nearby downtown city of Orange afforded very good restaurant access. Hidden Gem
First time staying at this beautifully restored historic home during one of my many trips to Orange, Va. Casey was the most gracious and accommodating host (even filling the latte machine with my preferred milk and customizing my breakfast.) The rooms are historically accurate with lush linens, the grounds are lovingly maintained, and the breakfast hearty and delicious. I’m looking forward to being a frequent guest and attending artisan workshops in the future. Kudos on creating a very unique and authentic guest experience.

I know we expressed our greatest apologies on the phone when we reached out, but again I cannot express enough how very sorry I am for this miscommunication. As I spoke with your husband on the phone this is our worst nightmare that something like this happens, especially because we go to such lengths to ensure our guest are very well taken care of. As most people can tell from our other reviews this kind of thing never happens. My wife and I have devoted our lives to welcoming our guest with warm care and concern to all their needs. As I stated on the phone we initiated the refund instantly before hotels.com was even aware, I also offered a free weekend getaway in the future, which still stands. Since other concerned guest will read this review in order to determine to stay with us I will give a little but more of the story. The request was made for an early check-in at, which we granted, but you all were not able to make it. We had a full house and were working with other guest so we text you all the directions on how to check-in on the phone number provided on the reservation. When you all arrived at 11:00 at night you were unable to find anyone around, and when you called our main line past 11:30 our answering service was on silent due to not disturb the other guest in the home. With that said, and as I said on the phone every review is an opportunity for us to get better. We do greatly apologize, and as I said on the phone would love for you all to return for a weekend stay on us here at Mayhurst. We hope the rest of your trip was enjoyable.

This B&B is located in a historic building that is an architectural gem right in the center of Virginia wine country. Since 2020 it is under the new management of a young couple that does an excellent job of restoring the property and making you comfortable and welcome. The rooms are richly decorated in colonial style, and the breakfast is great. Highly recommended.

Beautifully restored 19th century manor house with many delightful antique touches BUT with all the modern amenities. I can't say enough about this location and the friendly family that runs the place. Also, greatly enjoyed meeting their newest addition of goats and sheep in the back pasture. We look forward to visiting again. Well-positioned for visiting things (winery, Montpelier) near Orange, VA

"The Schoolhouse"
We are staying in "The Schoolhouse". Full kitchen & bath, all new. Fireplace with starter fuel and firewood. A nearby barn has friendly goats with cuddly babies. It looks like we're getting snowed in for another night.

We enjoyed three wonderful nights at the Mayhurst Inn. Having stayed at multiple B&Bs and Inns in South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia and Europe, the Mayhurst Inn is high on our list. Innkeepers, Jack and Pat, are among the very best that we have encountered. They focus on helping each guest get the most out of their stay. Their rich knowledge of the property and the region, and dedication to preserving this historic property, made our visit that much better.

The Mayhurst is a beautiful older plantation home converted into a B&B which is run with care and kindness by a married couple. They welcomed us warmly, let us check in a bit early, and they were there to serve us an amazing breakfast the next morning. Which in included thoughtful care take to accommodate my husband's eccentric gluten-free, vegetarian diet. It's an older home, obviously, so it's not in pristine condition, but everything was tidy and neat and well-cared for. The location and house seemed safe and was very nearby to the local wedding we were there to attend. I believe it's pretty central to a few wedding venues in the area, in addition to offering wedding services on site. I'd definitely be glad to go back to Mayhurst for a return visit.

Very pretty and relaxing. Welcomed with wine and cheese. We stayed in the Schoolhouse. Very private, pretty, comfortable and all the amenities. (stove, fridge, coffee maker, microwave) The hosts are personable, knowledgeable on the area and their home. Breakfast was delicious and just the right amount. Coffee was perfect. We will come back. We only had 1 night.

Great History Adventure
My husband loves Civil War history. It was a great place to stay and learn some more history about Virginia. The food was great and the inn keepers, Jack and Pat, were very hospitable, providing excellent advice on restaurants, wineries and local venues.

Great old Manor house!
Got a chance to stay at Mayhurst and we loved it! It's a rehabbed Old South Plantation mansion that the current owners and the previous owners have renovated to the way it was decades ago. How horse were wonderful and breakfast was delicious. We are definitely coming back!

I think if the guests are "white" they probably had or will have a better experience than we did . The place would've been great if the owners were not so obvious that they are not a fan of any one staying there of any other "color " of skin other than "white". Especially the wife of the owner , they were so not friendly, I felt so uncomfortable with their cold welcome & very little conversation. I will NEVER go back there again because of how poorly I felt I was treated . When the wife first saw us it was like she saw ghosts & the way she said " how can I help you " was with such a rude tone it was almost like she thought we were lost & we didn't belong there . When we told her that her husband already checked us in earlier today she "oh ok " & walked away . I was appalled to see & experience this type of blatant prejudice still exists in 2017 .

Pat and Jack were gracious hosts. The accommodations were comfortable and clean. The grounds are lush with vegetation and secluded which makes the property surroundings quiet and serene. The wine and cheese hour is a nice venue for meeting other guests and to learn about the historic significance of Mayhurst. The breakfast was delightful.

Mayhurst Inn is one of the best B&Bs we have stayed in during recent years. It is a lovely and historic home, lovingly restored by the current owner Pat and Jack, with period furniture and wall hangings. It really has the feel of a late antebellum manor house. Our room was comfortable and clean, meticulously kept during our stay. The Innkeepers were friendly and welcoming, offering wine and cheese every evening at 5:30, and joining the guests for friendly, informal conversation. The innkeepers also had a wealth of information available on things to see and do in the vicinity, restaurants, etc. Breakfasts were ample to the point of being lavish and were served personally by the innkeepers, with real linen and silver. A first-rate operation.
