This a lovely hotel, with wonderful friendly staff. You definitely need a car as it is in a remote location. But the area is very safe.

You’re right in the jungle, excellent grounds, small, quiet, boutique. Staff is very helpful and kind. Very reasonably priced. Rooms are large and facilities are well maintained. Our room was spotless with a very large balcony to observe the wildlife and listen to the monkeys.

The hotel staff is friendly. The grounds are beautiful. The room was an individual villa with a deck overlooking tree tops and was a great view. The beach is probably a kilometer away. The bathroom and shower are connected to the room but outdoors and covered and are very nice. The free breakfast was excellent

Excellent location, small and perfectly formed
Luna Azul has a very welcoming atmosphere and staff, beautiful gardens full of wildlife and a pool with great rainforest and distant pacific views, particularly at sunset. We loved the open air restaurant and lounge/bar. Breakfast is tasty and substantial and excellent dinners are chosen from a blackboard menu which changes daily. The 'sofa bed' was large and comfortable and could be configured as two singles so the room was great for a family of 4. The location is very peaceful and extremely convenient for the turtle nesting (in season) at Ostional, fantastic surfing at Playa Marbella to the north (where the Tiki Hut is a top spot for lunch) and Playa Guiones to the south (when the ford on the road to Nosara isn't too deep). Rolf provides great advice on what to do locally. The road in from the north was a bit rough but no problem in a 4WD.

Wow, stunning oasis in the jungle
This is one of the coolest places I've ever stayed. It's a spectacular little paradise in the jungle, with first-rate food, super cleanliness, amazing service and friendliness, high convenience. Wildlife abounds: iguanas, armadillos, howler monkeys.

A Wonderful Stay
Hotel Luna Azul was a wonderful place to stay. Our hosts and their staff were excellent and helpful. We enjoyed the quiet, beautiful surroundings. Our room was very comfortable and lovely. Our balcony faced the ocean. We enjoyed having a restaurant right there. Delicious meals! The unpaved roads are bumpy, so just know this in advance.

The owners, Ralph and Andreas are extremely nice, patient and passionate about their work. They don't go after money but instead go out of their ways to meet your needs. The environment is very nice. We saw monkeys, dragons, etc. A hidden gem!

Extremely friendly and helpful staff. The owners are travel buffs with some impressive resumes, so don't hesitate to ask for their advice. The food at their restaurant is fantastic! Rent a car and enjoy the crazy roads up and down the coast. There are many great beaches just a short drive away. Driving is like a video game.

Amazing Stay at Luna Azul
Our stay at Luna Azul was amazing. Rolf and Andreas, the owners, are probably the nicest hotel owners that have ever set foot on earth. The hotel is impeccably maintained and beautiful, with clean and spacious rooms equipped with a wide terrace overlooking lush vegetation and views of the ocean. Breakfast every morning was truly a treat, and the dinners served at their restaurant can match (and even surpass) the best dinners we had in NYC. Rolf was generous with advice for things to do, including arranging a turtle-seeing tour late at night, which turned out to be one of the highlights of our stay. In short, this is THE place to stay in in this part of Costa Rica, both for its amenities and owners.

Relaxing hotel with wonderful owners
We stayed 3 nights, had a small view of the beach and a great view of the jungle. Room was comfortable, bed was a little outdated but the deck was huge. The owners are amazing at what to recommend for excursions and made the place feel like home.

Harmony and peace in paradisiac surroundings
Beautiful facilities in a wonderful setting, with a view in the distance of the pacific ocean. Howling monkeys in the trees, frogs in the gardens, and many birds. The roads to access San Juanillo and then the hotel are not paved, and can be bumpy, but this is true of the entire coast in this part of Costa Rica. This is why the nature is also so well preserved and there are no crowds. I was extremely well received by the 2 owners, both from Switzerland. They provided great advice about visits, and organized for a rental car to be brought to me at the hotel. The premises are superbly designed and very well kept, and the swimming pool is delightful. Besides being a great hotel, they have a fantastic restaurant and one eats delicious food every evening. This is very appreciable since the hotel is not really within a very short drive to anywhere except San Juanillo. Distance-wise things are close but because of the roads, driving there takes time. The breakfast is also a delight. I really cannot think of one negative thing to say. It is obvious though, that this is a good place to stay providing one has a car. But even if you arrive without one, as I said, the owners organize a rental for you. I can highly recommend this place. I felt so much at peace that I nearly decided to stay there for my entire time in Costa Rica.

A wonderful experience
Never being In this part of Costa Rica , the roads are a challenging experience , but the hotel more than made up for the that !. The service and the food were amazing ! . Everyone was very attentive to our needs . Will recommended to a couple that needed a place to go relax and get away from all tourist hassle .

Hilltop Heaven
Luna Azul was the highlight of our two week tour of Costa Rica. Absolutely beautiful, with attention paid to even the smallest of details. Abundant wildlife, empty beaches within minutes, amazing food. Rolf is a fantastic chef and he and Andreas are the most personable and low key hosts. I'm envious of what they've created, a slice of heaven a bit off the beaten path. If you are thinking of Nosara, make the extra effort to go to Luna Azul. It's worth it.

Unique, private, awesome and friendly
Awesome private bungalow's with ocean views (perfect for sunsets). Outdoor bathroom & shower, the latter of which has an ocean view as well. Big rooms, very clean, giant wrap-around balcony's outside with more than comfortable sitting area. Overall one of the coolest places we have ever stayed. The filet we had at the hotel was the best meal we ate while in the country, and the owners are unbelievably nice. This is the first and most likely the only review I will ever write, which shows you how much we enjoyed this place, that I felt it was necessary to document.

Hotel Luna Azul, Ostional - forest boutique hotel
A very nice small hotel where the houwler monkies wake you up every morning and you can sit on your own terrace and listen to all the rainforest sounds. The beach is a bit far away, but it is a lovely beach and you have it almost for your self. The restaurant makes some of the best food we had during our 2 weeks holiday at various places in Costa Rica.

Tolles Hotel am Schildkrötenstrand
Hotel hat einen tollen Pool in dem man jeden Tag den Sonnenuntergang genießen kann. Das Frühstück ist reichhaltig und gut, Abends gibt es im Hotelrestaurant sehr gutes Essen.

Hôtel très agréable à Ostional
Les chambres sont propres, dans des bungalows et avec une belle terrasse. L'hôtel a une jolie piscine à débordement avec vue sur l'océan pacifque et un lobby très agréable. Propriétaire souriant et plein de bons conseils pour nous dire comment et quand profiter au mieux des arribadas des tortues sur la plage !

Alles klopt: prachtig gebouw en tuin gelegen op enkele honderden meters van het strand midden in de jungle; uitstekende service. Echt een tophotel in het topsegment. De weg er naar toe is helaas nog niet gemakkelijk voor de auto en de inzittenden.

Jag och min fru bodde här 6 nätter i mars. Det verkar som att det brukar vara mycket gäster på hotellet men den veckan vi bodde där var det en mellanvecka och mindre än halvfullt. Vi fick en bungalow som heter Tropical room med underbar utsikt över djungeln. Vissa bungalower sitter ihop två och två och då kanske det finns risk att man störs av grannar. Annars är det väldigt tyst och det enda som hördes var vrålaporna tidigt på morgonen. Maten och servicen är i toppklass och det finns inget att anmärka på. Hotellet ligger avsides en bit ifrån havet och det finns inget på gångavstånd. Området är rätt så tråkigt och har inget att rekommendera. Man kan göra utflykter norrut och söderut. Personalen på hotellet är mycket behjälpliga med att boka utflykter. Vi tyckte att det var lite för länge att bo här men 1-3 nätter hade passat bättre. Vi kan rekommendera hotellet främst till par.

Schweizer Komfort Hotel und sehr gutes Essen
Nach einem sehr anstrengenden Schotterweg erreichten wir die bd. Schweizer. Aber der Weg hat sich gelohnt ! Wir bezogen einen kleinen Bungalow mit entferntem Meerblick und völlig uneinsichtigem Balkon. Wir hatten eine Dusche draußen, ebenso nicht einsehbar. Das Zimmer war ausreichend groß und verfügte über Ventilator und Klima. Nachts war es aber am angenehmsten die Fenster nur mit Moskitonetzen zu verschließen und den Ventilator laufen zu lassen. Ein Safe und ein Kühlschrank waren vorhanden, Wifi gab es an der Lobby kostenlos. Die bd. Hausherren gaben gute Tips für Unternehmungen und beste Fahrtstrecken. Das beste aber war das Essen. Sowohl beim Frühstück wie beim Abendessen, wurde alles frisch zubereitet. Abends gab es eine kleine Karte, die aber wirklich für jeden etwas bot.

Das beste Hotel in dem ich je war!
Das Hotel Luna Azul ist einfach Spitzenklasse: Das Service ist ausgezeichnet (v.a. der Besitzer war sehr zuvorkommend und hilfsbereit), die Bungalows, der Ausblick und das Pool suchen seinesgleichen und das Essen (vom Besitzer persönlich zubereitet) ist eine Gaumenfreude ... das Hotel Luna Azul verdient ohne Frage die volle Punkteanzahl! Als kleine Anmerkung sei noch zu erwähnen, dass das Hotel in einer wenig touristisch erschlossenen Gegend liegt: die Strassen sind unbefestitigt und teilweise in sehr schlechtem Zustand. In der Trockenzeit ist das weniger ein Problem, in der Regenzeit ist jedoch ein 4x4 Pflicht. Wen aber ein bisschen Dschungel-Feeling nicht stört der ist hier bestens aufgehoben ;-)

Med fare for, at det vil betyde udsolgte værelser næste gang, jeg har brug for et, så vil jeg give dette sted min varmeste anbefaling: Som et paradis på jord, langt ud ad en støvet og humplet grusvej. Fantastisk betjening, mad kan ikke findes bedre noget sted, beliggenheden er smuk, og der er tænkt på hver en detalje i såvel værelser som fællesarealer. Ikke en finger at sætte på noget.

Beste hotel in de omgeving met uitstekend eten
Prachtig hotel met veel smaak ingericht. Ralph is de beste kok in de verre omgeving. Bij elke kamer een prachtig terras met uitzicht op zee of de jungle. Vanaf je eigen terras kun je prachtige vogels en veel wilde dieten spotten. Vooral de buitendouche bij de kamer is heel bijzonder! Prima basis voor bekijken van schildpadden.

Urlaub wie im Paradies
Das Hotel Luna Azul ist wirklich ein kleines Paradies. Hier stimmt einfach alles. Die Inhaber haben sich mit der Einrichtung des Hotels große Mühe gegeben und auch auf Kleinigkeiten geachtet. Der Service ist freundlich und sehr persönlich, ohne aufdringlich zu sein. Das Restaurant bietet sehr gutes Essen mit frischen Zutaten. Schön ist die Lage im Dschungel mit Blick auf den Pazifik. Insgesamt war es ein rundum gelungener Aufenthalt.
