Ouray is a charming small town in the San Juan Mountains in southwest Colorado. Originally a mining town, it has a historic main street surrounded by mountains. The Beamount Hotel, on the right side of the photo, was built in 1886 and is still in operation today. In 2013, it was named the #1 Hotel in the West by Conde' Nast Traveler Magazine. This view of Ouray park is taken from the perimeter trail overlooking the city in the early morning. If you take the trail, get a map from the visitors center or online first as it is difficult to find in some spots, but well worth the views. The Lower Cascade Falls are simple and cooling with their mist, located along the Perimeter Trail that encircles Ouray. I almost walked right by this blooming cactus. Thank goodness my wife saw it and waited while I took some pics. #patterns
Along the Sutton Mine Trail just south of Ouray, Colorado. View from Neosho Mine at the end of the Sutton Mine Trail south of Ouray, Colorado. Million Dollar Mornings on Million Dollar Highway ☺️ Looking up at the high bridge over Box Canyon, built in 1900 by the Bollen Bridge Company to support water pipes that criss-crossed the canyon where miners searched fruitlessly for gold. It is now a walking bridge that takes you into a tunnel in the side of the canyon wall - all part of an excellent hike along the Ouray perimeter trail. Easy hike to amazing views! At the base of Cascade Falls #ouray #colorado #cascadefalls #waterlust Waterfalls roar into a slot canyon so loudly you cannot hear one another speak. The descent is via scaffolding from the rim. #waterfalls Jeeping on the trails around Ouray.
#WinterWonders The picture perfect town of Ouray, CO taken from the top floor of the Ouray Brewery. Great place to meet locals, taste some local beers and eat a delicious lunch while soaking up the scenery! The buffalo chicken wrap was delish!
http://thetradingtravelers.com/how-i-survived-my-first-real-camping-experience/ Sutton Mine Trail south of Ouray. Beautiful and cool, this waterfall can be seen on the Sutton Mine Trail south of Ouray, Colorado. Inside of Box Canyon #boxcanyon #ouray #colorado Panoramic view outside of Ouray. Strikingly beautiful mountain area. One of my all time favorite places The view of the amphitheater from Sutton Mine Trail. This is an artistic memorial to Sue and Karen, who perished while ice climbing in Alaska, dedicated by their family and friends. It is situated at the base of the Ouray Ice Park, a premier climbing locale situated in dynamic Box Canyon and along the Ouray Perimeter Trail which is an excellent 5-hour round trip hike. We took a day trip to the hot springs in Ouray while camping in Silverton. It was so nice and relaxing and has pools of different temperatures so you can find the one that suits you and the weather. They had really nice bathrooms and showers which was convenient since the campground didn't have showers!
http://thetradingtravelers.com/how-i-survived-my-first-real-camping-experience/ Great hamburgers and French fries. Driving into Ouray from the South gives you a bird's eye view of this mountain town dubbed Switzerland of America! Sheer rock faces Ouray is one of my all time favorite little cities in America. It is known as the Switzerland of America. This was taken near the hot springs in the picture perfect town of Ouray, CO.
http://thetradingtravelers.com/how-i-survived-my-first-real-camping-experience/ This HUGE public pool incorporates the natural hot springs into a divided group of pools with varying temperatures and activities to suits everyone's needs: a hot soak (104 degrees F), three water slides, an inflatable obstacle course, lap lanes, warm wading pool, water volleyball, water basketball, and 8 foot deep swimming area. To top it off, you can enjoy there stunning views of the gorgeous surrounding geology where the perimeter trail allows you to hike the entire bowl in an easy 1/2 day trip. Ouray, CO is known as the Switzerland of America. With big, in your face mountains and quaint architecture like this, it's easy to see where that reputation came from A beautiful postcard view on the short hike to the Cascade Fall hike Follow this path up! Ropes to climb, mini cave to go in and just a fun area! Good hamburgers and French fries. From downtown Ouray, it is a very short hike up to this waterfall, where you can find more trails, including one that leads to a view of the whole town. If you visit Ouray, CO, I would recommend grabbing a bite to eat on the rooftop patio of this restaurant. It offers stunning views of the sheer rock faces surrounding Ouray. Downtown Ouray Such a great place to start your trails with an easy step up to a beautiful fall. Very short and leads to a second trail around the town. The postcard perfect town of Ouray! Looking towards Ouray from the Perimeter Trail #ouray #colorado #perimetertrail Cascade Fall trail. Quite the view of downtown Ouray. Part of the great trip to the Box Canyon Fall!
