This hotel is right in the city centre, it is so convenient and we loved the historical aspects of the property. The staff were incredibly helpful.

Staff were good and helpful especially the parking valet. Our room was above the Slug and Lettuce and was noisy. Bathroom was tired and the shower leaked. Food was mediocre. Will not rush back.

Really enjoyed stay. Lovely interesting property. Very friendly staff both on reception, bar and restaurant. Great food. Close to station and easy access to Oxford city centre.

Location and building was great. Ideal location for walking to sights. Unique experience. Dinner menu limited.very high steak supplement. Service charge on cocktails. More description on dessert ingredients required. Breakfast muffins were hard. Room was cold on arrival and plumbing a little erratic. Also a constant plant room humming in the room all night.

Excellent staff
The staff in all departments are very friendly and welcoming, can’t fault it at all. Went for the breakfast included option which was outstanding and again the serving staff was all very friendly and helpful. The only reason it gets four stars from me is because I had to change room on the first night. They checked me into a room below where a function was being held. The staff member dealt with the situation and changed my room, overall this could have been avoided if I was not given the room in the first place knowing a function was being held there.

Quirky Hotel in the old prison.. Some of the staff restaurant staff / bar staff not very friendly….. Cocktails expensive and took ages to be made… had to send one back as it had separated no apology offered!

Great central place to stay with a quirky, unique feel. Stayed in a cell room & all was good - very quiet. Hotel looked lovely with the Christmas decorations.

A lovely hotel, very friendly staff. Clean comfortable bedroom, the bar and restaurant were great. Michael in the bar and restaurant area was especially great, he was friendly and went out of his way to help us, nothing was too much trouble.

We travelled from Devon 3 hour journey and specifically booked this some months in advance because we wanted to stay in an cell room it was my partners birthday surprise he works for the police so it was a bit of a joke Ten minutes before we arrived we were called to say the room we booked wasn’t available due to a “maintenance issue” and there were no ther cell rooms available we were down graded to standard room and although a gerund was given and the staff were very kind and offered us free drinks in the bar it did kind of ruined the weekend &the surprise

Lovely Hotel - check what room you are booking!
Hotel was difficult to find there needs to be sign on the main road because it's hidden. We drove past it twice & unfortunately ended up in a bus only lane so will be receiving a fine in the post. The hotel itself, decor was lovely, staff friendly but feel very over priced - we paid over £300 for a 1 night stay & that was for a small double room in the annex not even one of the converted 'cell' rooms.

Great location downtown in a unique setting. Be prepared to duck a lot if you are over 6' as the doorways are short. Room was nice and well appointed. Restaurant staff were very friendly and helpful. Easy walk to most of the city center sights. Note - if you plan to park, call ahead. Fortunately, they could accommodate us but recommend you plan ahead to be sure.

Quirky but dated
I’d stayed here a few years ago and it’s a very unique hotel. Staying in a prison cell is a very unique experience and my daughter loved it. I stayed here about 6 years ago and the rooms don’t appear to have been updated since then. The water was either boiling hot or scalding hot, none of the USB sockets worked and even though every room is stated as sleeping 3, it can’t. We were told we would have to have our room assessed and then pay for an extra bed in the room, so in the end our daughter slept in the bed with us. A nice hotel for one night, if cheap but definitely show its age.

Hotel has a great history being a prison before, so it has kept a lot of its features. Rmbr if you want to stay in the main building and NOT the Annexe, make it known during reservation. Great restaurants all around, as its right in the centre. Option to park at the mall for fair rate over 24h, or book hotel parking along with room, a more exp option.
