Pleasant hotel in good location

Posted Aug 20, 2016
Location: Close to M40 and well-situated if planning visits to the Cotswolds and Oxford by rail.
Pleasant hotel in the centre of banbury with ample parking. Good breakfasts and late bar.

Good value for an old fashioned hotel

Posted Jul 23, 2016
Pros: Town/country setting. helpful service. Quiet rooms
Cons: Let the Hungarian staff kjnow what is meant by hot mustard
The hotel is well positioned in the town and it backs on to manacured green park like space. This means that the rooms facing that space are quiet. One gets a good sleep because of the quietness and the comfort of the beds. The staff is exceptionally helpful though they sometimes do not understand one's need. eg I asked for hot mustard (go old English mustard - ie Colman's), it came as a hot gravy! meal quality for dinner on the Sunday was only fair but breakfast was good. The hotel complex is complicated to naigate and the distance to room lengthy if you have heavy luggage.

European visit

Posted Jun 20, 2016
Good hotel and basic facilities, food ok. Room had dirty windows and had to close disabled access door outside to prevent heavy rainwater flooding in down the access ramp. Bookies with Expedia, not doing that again. Average all round but expect excellent for £120 a night.

Very dated hotel

Posted May 4, 2016 on Hotels
Very old, dark hotel. I had to change rooms because our first room had no hot water, so had to pack everything up and the second room had no natural light, just a small window and the curtains were pinned down, third room had big windows but couldn't be opened. Genuinely looked like a dated OAP home. Would not stay here again.

Use as last resort, not recommended

Posted Mar 21, 2016 on Hotels
It's the worst hotel ever. Room size was like I am living in a Curidor, although I have paid same as the double room. bed was not comfortable and shower was not working. I would not recommend to anyone.

not bad

Room hot with no way of cooling as radiator did not have a way of turning it off. Loud extractor fan started up at 5am so having the window open wasn't an option.

Very, very poor.

Posted Jan 7, 2016
Pros: It's location
Cons: Pretty much everything
Location: Very central.
We were in the 'new wing' - a monstrosity at the back of the hotel with the charm of a multi-storey car park. Stud partition walls & metal framed double glazing that gave us puddles of condensation on the window ledges. The room was freezing , the timing of central heating was unfathomable, no sign of any early morning heat, it appeared to come on briefly around 4.00 pm-ish & again at around 8.00pm-ish. The 'Executive' room was a reasonable size, but all the furniture was crammed into one end, so that we had to turn sideways to get between the bed & TV unit. The gap was so small the doors of the base unit could not be fully opened & we couldn't move the bed because the bedside lights were fixed to the wall. Yet there was a vast space between the door & the bed. Why would they do this? With the hotel fully booked, a large proportion of the staff, we were informed, had elected not to turn up on New Year's Day. So, at breakfast we had to ask a waitress to clear a space for us at an already used table, then we had to scavenge for un-used cutlery at surrounding tables because she didn't reappear after clearing a space. We were so cold in the room that we decided to have coffee in the lobby (partly because our room wasn't serviced until around 5.00 pm & we'd run out of coffee sachets, tea bags & milk, and partly because the public areas, including the miles of narrow corridors in the multi-story new wing, were kept hot all the time) there was nobody tending the bar.
