Boutique, old school vibe but...

I have very mixed feelings about writing this review. I have stayed at the Colony Palms several times, always for the location, old Palm Springs feel, and beautiful grounds, but the rooms and front desk are a different story...
Most recently we stayed for three nights (with fees, etc, averaging $500 a night -- the last night we stayed was Friday when the room rate before taxes/fees was a whopping $599). We had booked what the hotel says is a standard room. Upon questioning we found out that the hotel has only five "standard" rooms, which kind of makes you question their use of that term. The room was really small and dark. As an example, the closet measured approximately 18 inches wide. Also the room had pocket doors leading into the bathroom that were very unwieldly and the built-in dresser drawers stuck. We asked about the room twice and were shut down very quickly and told quite haughtily that we had not booked a luxury room. Our final night, when we were leaving to go out for the evening, we were told we could upgrade, but by then we had no time to pack and unpack. The hotel comped us $50, but that's not really so much in the scheme of the total charge.
Unfortunately I always have noticed this disconnect on the part of the staff. The wait staff and housecleaners are very friendly, but the front desk always tends toward the cold side. Is it really that hard to say 'welcome to our hotel' or 'welcome back" to a returning customer? Next year we'll stay somewhere else.

Thank you for your review. We are currently in our high season. When we are fully booked we have no wiggle room to upgrade or move you to another room. We are more than happy to upgrade our guest when we have rooms available to upgrade to.
We hope to get a chance to welcome you back in the future. Please contact me directly and I will be happy to assist you in a future accomidation
