My second time to Palma Del Rio and I stayed here for 4 nights on a business trip to the area. The note itself is beautiful, set in an old monastery and the grounds are great with a pool and garden. It’s set pretty much on the centre of town with an easy walking distance to shops and restaurants. The hotel doesn’t open their bar or restaurant (which includes breakfast, I don’t think they state this in their description but they should) until weekends but there was a fridge in my room so I could buy food from the local supermarket nearby or you can go to the little cafes/restaurants nearby. The parking is on the street outside. Staff were friendly.

The staff did not make us feel welcomed, starting with the receptionist and continuing to two wait staff. We were in Spain and Portugal for a month. And found wonderful hospitality people everywhere.else. The facility is beautiful.

15th Century Charmer
Historic property, built in the 15th century as a monastery. Has been beautifully renovated and converted into a charming hotel. Has a couple of pleasant courtyards with nicely tended plants. Food was delicious. Our room had a gorgeous vaulted ceiling with painted design. Would definitely stay there again.

Cool Historic Hotel!
The Monastery is amazing! They offer a pool, restaurant and bar area. Palma Del Rio is a nice little town, with friendly people.

Perfectly peaceful location to immerse yourself in Spanish life, but still close enough to Seville and Córdoba for more touristy things. Pool re-vamp fabulous, staff, great to see some familiar faces again, who were impressed by my ability today more than one word in Spanish now. Wonderful place but don't tell anyone!!

Interesting property ! It was an old monastery remodeled. Diferent rooms, the atmosfere takes you to an ancient time. Very quiet and peaceful.

A beautiful historic monastery in a great location. Palma del Rio is a central location for visits to Sevilla, Cordoba, and Granada. Palma also has its own attractions and charm . We were there for Holy Week, and the processions of Palma were moving. Monasterio San Francisco is attached to a church, and the processions on many nights ended at that church, so from our room we were able to see many different penitents marching solemnly behind the carried sculptures of Jesus and Mary. Palma also has a wonderful palace of its own, Portocarrero, which is well worth a visit (must be arranged with a phone call first). Overall, we had a great stay (two adults and one child).

You will never forget the charm of this hotel
I have read with interest other reviews about this hotel and some aspects of the accommodation being lacking ( yes - there are only six sun beds..) . My thoughts are if you want four or five star service you'd better head to the Hilton. On the other hand if you want a stopover in a truly atmospheric old Spanish building loaded with history and with unique charm then this is for you. One day a "boutique" hotel chain will buy this wonderful property and you won't be able to afford to stay.

A hidden treasure
What an unexpected surprise. A historic piece of Spain adapted for the modern tourist while maintaining all the mystery and stark charm of a monastery that was the home of 500 monks at its peak. Long corridors with nooks and cranies that lead the guests to their adequately furnished, and well heated, large cell ; we visited over wet and chilly days in March,. To dine in the former monks refectory with the walls hung with tapesteries and paintings beneath a wooden beamed ceiling, prepared diners for what was a splendid supper offering a range of Spanish specialities and local dishes. The courtyards and large vegetable garden encourage the visitor to explore the estate. A place to revisit.

Something a little different to the norm
We really liked the hotel. You could park for free on all the side roads surrounding the hotel so it is perfect if you are on a driving tour round Andalusia. The decoration is quirky and the place grounds are beautiful. The hotel is a good place to stop off between Cordoba and Seville. We visited in late September and found the actual town it is in, Palma del Rio (approx. 40 min drive to Cordoba) is a quite little town, mainly with local people who don't speak English. There were plenty of good cafes and bars near by and we managed to muddle our way through with virtually no Spanish language skills. The restaurant and bar in the hotel were very quite, and far more expensive than the local places, so we avoided them.

Great Monastery Retreat but Still silent order.
The hotel was fine. They let themselves down in 2 ways. They told me about their secure parking but didn't tell me it cost 10 euros a day. The food was ok but very salty and not up to the promised levels. Nice place though. Lots of ringing bells on a Saturday night.

Wonderful historic building
The magnificence of the building easily blinds one to its defects as a modern hotel. The maintenance was a concern, as the bath shower didn't function correctly, and the main shower was less than 6 feet high, and required you get wet and cold before adjusting the taps (non-mixer). Also the headboard was not fixed and banged against the wall every time you moved in the night.having said that, it was a great building and a good location. Parking was €10 extra, and they were on a skeleton staff with only 1 receptionist, and one waiter at dinner coping with about 20 people. He did a great job and the food was excellent.

Historic Interest but In Transition
Located in the market town of Palma del Rio, the hotel is housed in a wonderful old Franciscan monastery, with large rooms, wide staircases, and spacious public spaces, and has a large garden and outdoor pool in the grounds behind it. It has 'good bones' and will make a wonderful lodging when the renovations currently ongoing are finished. They are upgrading the facility to qualify for the Spanish four-star hotel category. This unfortunately marred our stay: the bar was not functioning and an evening meal was by special request only, so it really was operating as a bed and breakfast (not included in the room charge). Breakfast was an ample buffet, however, served in what had been the monastery refectory--a grand space. It is useful also to know Palma del Rio lies an hour's drive from Cordoba, which was the focus of our visit.

Excellent and romantic hotel. A lot of great Character. After seeing Cordoba for the day we were headed south towards Sevilla and stayed at this great romantic hotel. Excellent choice if you have a rental car. It is better than all three star hotels and maybe even better than some 4 star hotels.

Not a regular hotel
This is not your regular hotel. You could love it or hate it. The walled gardens are lovely and peaceful and we liked these very much. The long narrow swimming pool is set in grass and orange trees one side and attractive vegetable plots the other. Sounds weird but it works, and you gaze at the old monastery building from the pool recliners. It is hard to say the rooms are attractive although they all have unique and attractive features. The inner facing rooms are downright dismal. We were allocated one. The bed was slightly damp, the mattress sagged in the middle, and the lighting gloomy. There was one small north facing window which passersby peer in through, slight air of mouldiness, all in all rather miserable. Everything changed when the room opposite become free. We asked for a change which was freely given. Our new room had two big windows opening to the outside, to the sun and the scent of orange blossom (we stayed in April). Although the room was still very basic and monastic, it had romance and light and we loved this room. So, great hotel with great character and interest but make sure you get an outside facing room. The building is hundreds of years old and the rooms reflect this. Do not expect modern glitzy surroundings although the bathroom fittings and facilities are all clean and newly fitted. We stayed in April, in the overpowering heat of summer everything may appear quite different.

Ha sido un fin de semana de descompresión después de una estancia en la playa... Pero el pueblo, los alrededores y el hotel merecen de por sí una escapada, que sosiego, que bien se duerme y que familiar resulta todo.. El restaurante estupendo, el jardín para la noche muy acogedor.. Repetiré con amigos, merece la pena que lo conozcan y que disfruten tanto como nosotros

El lugar es muy especial y original. Muy bonito. Un verdadero sitio para descansar y de relax. La piscina grande y bonita. Las habitaciones geniales y limpias. Repetiremos sin duda. No me gustó q tendrían q cuidarlo más. Había zonas sin mantenimiento, una pena.

Wunderschöne anlage. Empfehle sie gerne weiter. Gewünscht hätten wir uns noch eine bar zum cafe trinken oder den abendlichen absacker, aber da gibt es diekt gegenüber auch eine möglichkeit.
