"Nice cabin and what a view."
My brother and I stayed at the Knik on our way from nitnilchik to Fairbanks . Was really surprised that it was on a dead-end road. Liked that you could eat on premises and again what a view.

"Cozy cabin in the woods"
We stayed in cabin #2. While at the cabin you feel secluded and able to “unplug” from the hustle and bustle; however, Palmer is a short drive away. A quick drive to Palmer and you have grocery and restaurants. We came prepared with DVD’s for the dark winter nights (no cable) and loved having Wi-Fi so we could share pics of our stay with friends and family. It’s very tranquil and homey, just the right amount of amenities, well-appointed kitchen (even a microwave). Just enough space for four guests – it’s pretty small, but as the song goes, “Love grows best in little houses.” It was clean, comfortable, and the hot shower was divine. Only one minuscule constructive feedback is that the “new futon” in the living room was not comfy. You can feel the metal frame while sitting and sleeping. However, the beauty of the surroundings and all the other wonderful aspects of the cabin outshine the comfort factor of the futon and so inconsequential. We spent most of our daylight hours exploring the “back yard” which is miles and miles of Alaskan wilderness, and sipped hot chocolate in the evening while watching movies and playing games. Thank you for a wonderful wonderful extended weekend! We didn’t want to leave and will definitely be back!

Pocket Guide: Lazy Mountain Palmer Independent Hotels

Palmer sits on the banks of the Matanuska River, 42 miles northeast of Anchorage. Although primarily a commuter community, the area has an agricultural heritage dating back to the New Deal and the founding of the Matanuska Colony. Palmer is perhaps best known as host to the Alaska State Fair, which is in turn famous for breaking word records in growing vegetables that are truly enormous.
