Fantastic beach, terrible hotel

The beach is long and clean, and the hotel does have plenty of lounge chairs on the beach and around the pool. That is the best thing I can say about the hotel. With the exception of entertainment staff, the hotel employees were unfriendly and lacked basic customer service skills. Service at the reservation only dinners was very bad (even difficult to get a water refilled), and many of the restaurants are next to the stage, so instead of a pleasant, quiet meal, you can't even have a conversation because there is a show or movie blaring into the restaurant. The food was not very good, even by all-inclusive standards. There were very long lines at the bars around the main pool areas. It has potential to be a nice place, but I wouldn't go back or recommend it.

Better than expected

We went for a wedding. It was surprinsinly good. Food has improved. Service at the Lobby 1 and buffet service was friendly, better than in the Lobby 2 area and buffet. The Mezcal Restaurant service was excellent, food was excellent as well. Sushi dinner was not as good, too salty. Overall buffet breakfast and lunch were good and snacks were on target for a quick bite.

If you paid more than $70 per night, you overpaid!

Pros: The grounds are very well kept, beautiful in fact.
Cons: Customer service, table service, new beds, iron, ironing board in the rooms, more bars for less lines, way better food, new air conditioners.
Location: On the beach, there are a few beachfront bars along the coastline within walking distance. You'll need them if you get thirsty and don't want a line.
I'm not even sure where to begin with this hotel. It used to be a way better experience. For some reason, it's just become a real 3rd world experience. The food is bland, with really only variations of rice dishes, what tastes like boiled beef, and wieners soaked in tomato sauce. Check in was horrible, the beds are smashed in from years of use, the rooms don't have any amenities, not even an iron. The air conditioner in our room rattled so bad, it was debatable whether we should just sweat it out. I could just go on and on about how disappointed I have become with a hotel that I used to frequent. Never again. All inclusive, when you could get someone to serve you, or when there wasn't a 20 minute line up at the bars... what a joke!

Slides are nice, but kids was broken and the others had an age restriction. Not good when you are traveling with a boy that has autism.

Hotel Overall

Pros: Large Beautiful Hotel Friendly staff Plenty of activities
Cons: Food is only so so quality Hotel is on a hill so its down to the beach and up to the hotel room Not enough chaise lounges to accomodate the guests
Location: Close to Nature preserve Near Canal and shopping
The hotel is very Large and Beautiful with 800 plus rooms. However Mini busses are recommended to travel from one end of the resort to the other. Trip from the airport to the hotel took 2 hours and cost $100 each way. There is plenty of food and restaurants however like any "all inclusive" resort the food is only so so quality. Please be in good physical condition because this Hotel is on a hill so every day it was down to the beach/ restaurants and then up to the hotel room. There is not enough chaise lounges for the guests, particularly if you prefer "out of the sun" as we do. The staff we found very friendly and in addition there were plenty of activities to do each day.

Very Relaxing

Pros: We enjoyed having everything paid for in advance. It is nice to just walk in, eat and walk out without money exchange. We food was good.
Cons: In the past we went to any of the buffet locations we desired. We could not do that for breakfast this time, even though we got up early to make sure
We have been to this Royal Decameron facility several times and have always enjoyed it. It is so good to be able to park your vehicle and not have to drive for several days.

Sprawling all-inclusive resort beachside.

As a local, I would rate Decameron as three stars. There were no high end optional upgrades offered to us, even though I saw at least one banner about it. They had a lot more staff working than at other resorts. The staff was sometimes friendly, but many times they were enforcing unseen rules like no soda until lunch and no food outside of the eating area. Some restaurants were open for breakfast, but from 7-8am and if you for there at 8am they would turn you away to one of the other restaurants. The resort was quite large, so walking from one to the other took at least 5 minutes walking if you were young and able. I was there with elderly parents, and being turned away cost us a 20 minute detour. There were little busses (square passenger vans) that shuttled guests around, but there wasn't a schedule. The best way to get one was to request it from security. Additionally, the little busses shared the road with the pedestrians. I had to be vigilant about holding on to my 6 year old whIle we waited on the side for the little busses to pass. The food was very mediocre and mostly buffet style. All drinks including water had to be requested by waiters at the table or at the bar. There wwere 8 restaurants, but a lot of the food options were the same in at least 3 of the 8 restaurants. The desserts were the same at lunch and dinner and at the different restaurants.

Great place. Many pools. No drinking in the pools is the only thing we didn't like. Had to get out of the pool go to the bar to drink. Great food. Friends staff.
