All the little things that make a big difference

I used to be a travel writer, and still stay in a lot of hotels for work, but I was pleasantly surprised by my one night in this hotel. It's simply designed without being cheap or basic, has fast wifi, good toiletries and showers, and best of all, high-quality sheets and very nice, soft beds. The rooms are also very well soundproofed, so even though mine overlooked the Rue de Dunkerque, which runs across the Gare du Nord, it was surprisingly quiet (I actually slept until nearly 10am the next morning, which has never happened before.)
Speaking of which, when they say it's three minutes walk from the GdN, they're not kidding. It's also right by the Gare de l'Este and a short walk from a ton of restaurants and the Canal St Martin.
What set it apart for me, however, was the staff, who were unflaggingly friendly and eager to help. Though there's no full room-service menu, you can order drinks and a standard French "snacking" of bread and meat or smoked salmon, which comes with a nice little salad, brought up to your room free of the usual room service charge.
