Nice Hotel close to Metro, unhappy staff

My fiancé and I stayed in this hotel for a period of nine nights. For starters, Bagnolet really isn't a bad area. We were comfortable walking around after dark. The hotel is so close to the metro that you do not ever need to taxi (unless time is a factor). Upon arriving, the hotel staff was not pleasant. They are not very eager to help. They seem non-chaulant about just about everything. There were two staff members who were friendly, always smiling. Other than that the staff really didn't care whether or not they were helpful.
The room is very clean and comfortable. We enjoyed our stay in the room. The beds are great and the pillows are soft. The shower has a weird design that squirts water all over the floor but nothing I can really complain about. We always had our "Do not disturb" sign on the door. We left for a one-night trip to Belgium and when we returned to our hotel in Bagnolet our sign had been taken down and the room cleaned. I am glad our valuables were locked in the safe.
Speaking of the safe, when we arrived it was broken. My then-boyfriend wanted to hid our engagement ring in the safe (I didn't know about it). He called front desk and they fixed it within twenty minutes. They were very prompt and kind while doing this.
Do not have the hotel call you a taxi. Go on the curb and get your own or you will be charged an arm and a leg. The hotel makes commission.
Overall, we had a lovely stay. Would come back.
