Nice and good hotel. It close to beach.

It is close to beach and convince. A nice swimming pool and nice small water park for my kid. Give me a good memories and nice vacation. A good place for relax and play with my kid. The hotel food is good and the price is reasonable. I will plan another trip in coming Chinese New Year. Looking for another good memory for me in 2017 . Thanks

Excellent resort with good faciilties

Pros: The facilities and location.
Cons: More frequent shuttle service to George Town would be good (perhaps during peak season). Night entertainment can also be improved.
Location: Location is great. The night market is just outside the hotel. There are also various beach activities at the beach.
Stayed at the Golden Sands Resort with my family the past 4 days, and enjoyed it immensely. The facilities are good and hotel staff are generally helpful and responsive. My requests (eg. transferring the extra bed to my children's room next door and getting extra towels) were attended to promptly. I appreciate the hotel's Cool Lounge and shower facilities which allowed us to enjoy the hotel's facilities for the rest of the afternoon after we checked out, as our flight was in the evening. The location was also good, as the night market was just outside the hotel, and there is a bus stop just outside the hotel where we can take a bus to George Town. The hotel also provides a free shuttle to George Town but you need to book this way in advance during the peak period as seats are limited.

Close to beach, but hotel interior a bit old

Was not too happy with check-in process. Our rooms were still not ready even though it was two hours past the standard check in timing. No apology was given. It was very inconvenient as we were travelling with a baby. There were mosquitoes in our room too and the room interior was a little old. We could spot peeling paint in a few areas of the room. Breakfast was not bad though, a lot of variety to choose from. Hotel bed was comfortable too and what is helpful is that they provide a bottle steriliser for us throughout our stay. Many pools to choose from, although they were filled with screaming kids. I would probably choose to stay elsewhere should I come back to Penang again for a different experience.

A good hotel which has seen it's glory days.

The property is well located though tad too close to civilisation which lurks just outside the gate. The rooms were spacious, nice and well furnished and very comfortable. The grounds were well kept and green with a good walk to the upscale Shangri La facility of Rasa Sayang. But the building shows signs of aging. The staff was very very nice except the check in was in a slow motion taking about 15 minutes and the gentleman at the counter was like a government bureaucrat. The food is very good in all restaurants. The Rasa Sayang restaurants are fine but over priced. Absent ability to go in the sea the 4 day holiday was a bit dimnisheds. I am a member of Golden Circle of Shangri La since 1992 and have lived in most of its properties. This did not do justice to the Shangri La brand I ave known.

Convenient for beach access

The Golden Sands Shangri-la is a nice resort for a getaway. It is a little out of the way from the local tourist jaunts but still doable. The rooms are slightly older but they were relatively clean. The staff are extremely helpful and courteous. They definitely made the stay more enjoyable.
