Desk Clerk issue

The hotel, room, and breakfast were very adequate. However, upon reviewing my 4 day statement, I noticed that I did not receive a military discount for the first day. At registration, a different clerk informed me that my rate would be discounted. When I brought up the error to the clerk upon checkout, she gave all kinds of reason why I was obligated to pay a higher rate for the first night. She said that rates can change at anytime. Really? Apparently she had not heard of a verbal contract, nor does her position make any sense. I have never stayed at a hotel that changed there rates after I have registered. I called the manager the next day who issued an immediate refund for the difference. The clerk may not have been able to make that determination at the time, but I think she could have been less argumentative, and offered to have the manager call me regarding the statement. This certainly has left me with a negative impression towards Comfort Suite, and less inclined to use them again.
