Great Hotel in the heart of historic Philadelphia

Posted Feb 8, 2016
Had an outstanding stay at the Hotel Monaco last weekend. Everything was top notch start to finish, from the doorman/valet greeting to the check-in. Received an upgrade upon check-in, which is always nice, sometime is pays to travel in the off season! The room was beautiful, a bit quirky, but still tastefully done. The view was terrific, overlooking Independence Hall. Certainly plenty to do within walking distance, especially when the weather is good. Penn's Landing and Winterfest were just a short walk away, obviously there is plenty of sightseeing with historic Philadelphia literally just outside your door, and there were numerous bars and restaurants in the area. The on site restaurant, the Red Owl, offered an excellent breakfast, but did not try out their bar or lunch/dinner menus. Overall, would highly recommend this hotel for a multitude of factors, including location, convenience, amenities and value, at least in the off season. And with all the Hotel offers, even in season the additional expense would be more than justifiable.

Not deserving of high rating . C level hotel.

Posted Feb 8, 2016
Pros: The tavern attached was good for breakfast and drinks.
Cons: Needs complete new decorations. Much larger workout room. Ice on every floor. Better room service selection. Someone to help with bags.
Location: Great location for independence historical area.
The decorations and colors look like someone did on purpose to be awful. The decorator must have found out the owner was cheating on them and purposely made the colors clash. Nothing went together, color or design. Eclectic to a point of being strange. Beds and pillows were a holiday Inn level. No one to help with bags and this has a 4.5 star rating? Workout areas in motels have more equipment and better quality. This Hotel was in a great location and the Tavern was very good. Service people were good . It just should be a mid-level rated hotel. I am not one to care about the decorations but people there all agreed that is was a weird and noticeably annoying. This is in a city that once paid a lot of money to an artist to make a large laundry pin and call it art.

old city Philadelphia

Posted Feb 8, 2016
Pros: eclectic decor; morning coffee hour in the lobby; wine bar in the evening. Red Tavern breakfast is wonderful.
Cons: extra hooks in the bathroom or a towel rack. Fitness center needs disinfecting wipes. Better service in rooftop bar and better music
Had a wonderful weekend in Old City Philadelphia. Great to be surrounded by all of the historic sites, small business owned specialty shops and great food. Monaco was a perfect spot to stay...the rooftop bar is an exceptional experience, even in February!

Would stay again without hesitation.

We live just outside of Philly, but the wife and I spent the night for her 40th. I booked a room based on all of the positive reviews. The room was very nice, and the check-in and and check-out was effortless. We only spent one night, but it was a very relaxing stay.

blizzard 2016 Stay

Posted Jan 26, 2016
Pros: Hotel staff very helpful and friendly.
Location: Within walking distance to just about everything for us...hospital, historic region, restaurants.
We stayed at the hotel during the blizzard while our son and his wife were having a baby at nearby Pennsylvania Hospital.. It was a perfect location, staying in a lovely suite overlooking Independece Hall. Hotel was not only a short walk away but also near fabulous restaurants that remained open.

Staying at the Monaco was a fabulous experience. The staff was efficient and friendly. And the location was perfection. I would definitely stay here again whenever I return to Philadelphia.

Exquisite...

One of my favorite all time hotels... Aesthetically whimsical with rich in appeal... Colors, wall art, furniture - created a vibrational feeling of joy... Room service - on time... From valet to concierge we were received with smiles... The Red Owl Tavern, which adjoins the hotel...created a menu for your tastebuds to have a party... I highly recommend this hotel...

Nice Hotel, not exactly my style

Posted Jan 17, 2016
Pros: Location and staff were all perfect
Cons: Coffeemaker in the room, reasonable or free breakfast buffet
Location: Across the street from the Liberty Bell and Indpendence Hall, around the corner from Betsy Ross house, etc.
The Monaco was located right in the middle of the Patriotic sites and close to restaurants. I got a good deal on the room but everything else, especially room service, was overpriced. No coffee available except by in room dining at $15 per small pot including delivery and tip. Servibar had drinks but again, highly priced. The decor was edgy and fashuionable but not exactly my style. Did not eat in the restaurant.

I hope you got explore all the historic sites during your visit. While we don't have a free buffet, I definitely recommend checking out Red Owl Tavern next time you are in town. And if you do decide to visit, we offer complimentary coffee in our lobby every morning and we also have coffee makers available for the rooms upon request at no charge. We hope to welcome you back again! In Service, James

Alice in Wonderland meets Louis XIV

Posted Jan 16, 2016
Cons: It would be helpful to have a brochure of hotel services/amenities in the room
Location: The location could not be better for exploring the Old Town sights. It was right on the same square as Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell.
The hotel decor -- including our room -- was quite eccentric. But, the things that matter most to me were all excellent. The bed was very cozy. The room was very quiet and clean. My wife and I had a romantic getaway weekend in Philadelphia.
