Got a great Expedia rate and used all of my points to book a room at the Sonesta at Rittenhouse Square for one night for my birthday. Check-in was great, they had a nice happy hour going with hors' d'oeuvres in the lobby, the room was nice and clean, the staff friendly...
We returned to our room around 10:00 pm after a great day and a wonderful dinner. We were ready to get a good night's sleep so we could start the day fresh. About 20 minutes after we turned out the light (and lowered the temp in our room a few degrees) we started hearing a loud thump from the corner of our room by the thermostat. It stopped for about 15 minutes and then started again only louder. We finally called engineering at 12:30 am and waited about 15 minutes for someone to come to our room. By then, the noise had abated again. The engineer looked around and said he had no idea what was making the sound, but would have someone take a closer look the next day.
We tried to go back to sleep and the banging started again about half an hour later. It went on and off intermittently until we just decided to get up early and get out of there. As we left our room, we noticed the door to the room next to our was open and there was a cart piled up with tools in the doorway.
We mentioned this to the front desk staff who comped our overnight parking fee, but that didn't help the fact that we were exhausted, frustrated and out about $300+. This was our first stay at a Sonesta and will probably be our last. :(
